The one thing I think some people are missing in this chat is the job isn't a popularity contest.

Yes you need votes to get elected, but Grassy has nailed it. Trump didn't look to get the support from big cities where nobody votes, he went to the rural areas and he hit home to a lot of people that have had the same amount of nothing for years, he promised them jobs and changes to American imports and steel works, and they voted for that as it was better than what they had.

I would say he ran a very good marketing campaign, targeting the area he thought he could expose.

I guess the answer is there for American people, you don't have to vote, so if you choose not to then you have to live with the consequences.

Will he get a second term, who knows but he is fun to read each day with his antics

At least with Trump you know what your going to get.

Would I prefer a sane, rational person, Hillary Clinton, to a complete buffoon, misogynist, self-proclaimed abuser of women and complete and utter idiot, Donald Trump? Unequivocally and unambiguously YES.

He paid the right company to run his marketing campaign...same lot from the UK that got Brexit across the line. Selective and targeted Big data analysis won the election for Trump. Smart people always pay people smarter than them to get the job done

Just have a look at one or two of Trumps' press conferences. Rational and D Trump are mutually exclusive.

S42 you are pretty critical of Trump I imagine including his business empire he is not prepared to relinquish except to hand over the running and decision making to his sons. How is that different to Malcolm Turnbull? Has he relinquished his business interests? And what about Kevin 747? His misses has a pretty big business empire, one could argue there could have been conflicts of interest there or big gains to be cashed in on being the PM's other half.
