I don't usually pay too much attention to the Syrian situation but according to what the media tells us their president Basher al Assard is a brutal dictator backed by Russia. From what I'm reading also backed by Iran and Hezbollah.

But the so called rebels who have, temporally at least taken Allepo seem like Muslim extremists themselves. Russia bombing the fuck out of it providing arial support to the Syrian army.

Can someone explain this shit? How can you pick a side? Here's an article that seems to sum up each side and a bit of the history.

DD this was on Abc Radio, this morning.
The rebels claim they are a more moderate form of Isis.
They wont force women to wear full head gear.Wont kill minority populations or alternative Islam faith's.
If Syria falls can see Trump imposing trade sanctions. On the new islamic state.Maby even Russian troops on the ground.

Rebels taking advantage of the fact that Assads buddy Putin is tied up in Ukraine and won't have the forces he once did to bail out Assad, and Israel have toweled up Hezbollah and Iran has been put back in their box and wont be helping him like last time either.

Sounds like Iraq. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Iraq was a well-functioning country with Saddam in charge apart from the genocide against Kurds was it or Suni's? US and others could have applied different measures to stop it but instead they took out Saddam's army and him and his family and who took advantage of that? ISIS despite US efforts to train and arm a new Iraq army and police force who just surrendered meekly as soon as ISIS extremists went in with a few guns.

Same with Afghanistan. Armed them to the teeth with sophisticated arms and trained them but shit themselves as soon as the yanks left the building and the Taliban came out of their caves and from under their rocks.

Promises by the Taliban just like the promises of these Syrina rebels. Once they have power and control the women will be told to cover up, no education and make it legal to kill them in the street if they disobey Sharia law. These hard-line Muslims are no different to a pack of horny gang rape animals.

Assad and Putin used chemical weapons and barrel bombs last time to wipe out resistance.

It is just like Ireland, Greece and other parts of the religious world, sect against sect.

There are
  • Sunni Muslims, who comprise 84%–90% of all Muslims.
  • Shi`ite Muslims, who comprise 10%–16% of all Muslims.
  • Sufis, who are Islamic mystics.
  • Baha’is and Ahmadiyyas, which are 19th-century offshoots of Shi`ite and Sunni Islam, respectively.
  • Druze, Alevis, and `Alawis, which are small, sectarian groups with unorthodox beliefs and practices that split off from Islam
Then within each sect are off shoots just like christianity and they all claim to be right!

It is a mess just like Serbia was, Belfast and so on!

Like Baz and Grump said. The Russians struggle in a clean war vs the Ukrainë Because the whole worlds watching.
Syria would be right up the Russian alley.A dirty violent war like WW2 Eastern Front.
Level towns to the ground.Less concern about civilian casualties.Chemical weapons.Mass bombings and no prisoners taken.

Greece is about 99% Greek Orthodox - not sure what you mean about them.

Ireland is about ( or was 80% Irish Catholic ) with Prostants making up minority about 20% , under partition NI was majority Protestant and with was then a Catholic minority which is now just recently changed to a Catholic majority, due to population changes.

Greeks/Macedonians, could be in error but there seemed to be an issue which was sectarian in its origin.

Greek Macedonian issue is one of genealogy,as they are both adherents of the orthodox religion. This is a heated issue depending which side of the fence your on,where a Greek will point to the big Slavic migration of 7th century AD in the Northern Greek Macedonian territory, where the descendants regard themselves as a separate entity, and then there are the other Macedonians who consider themselves Greek, but I have mates from both sides,so I never buy into it.The naming rights was resolved when the Greek Government and the Macedonia Leaders based in the ex communist Yugoslavian region of Skopje, made the naming compromise of acknowledging that particular area as Northern Macedonia,as distinct from the Greek Macedonia, where Thessaloniki is that regions capital.
