Weeks of trial and a numpty public servant jury locked up for 6 days without a verdict only to find out one had smuggled research papers in on rape accusations to try and sway other jurors.

What an absolute farce. Whole things a political circus.

Pity the ACT doesnt have laws to punish this flog.  How much time and money has been wasted now?
Surely someone should be held accountable.  Worse is that if the cleaner hadn't found the documents accidently the jury would've probably reach a tainted verdict.

Spot on. The cost was around 2 million bucks to run the trial, they cost about $250K a week to run.

My view is there should be a permanent stay of prosecution, zero chance of getting a fair trial and clean jury now.

Yes there is a sanction, but just a fine of around $1600 according to the ABC news.
The whole case is a farce, how can you find someone guilty or innocent when it's a "he said - she said" situation with no supporting forensic evidence. It should never have gone to trial. This latest thing with the jury that could have swayed some jurors opinions does little to balance those in the woke Me-Too movement who publicly declared the accused to be guilty before the trial, especially that bitch clown Wilkins who sprouted off at the Logies, the case was tainted from that moment on. Then the alleged victim sounds off outside the court after the miss-trial which then taints any retrial, she may be found to be in contempt of court, but I'm sure there will be pressure from outside influences to see that doesn't happen. Tell them all to go home and move on.

Yes. It'll be interesting to see if she gets in the shit for making a public statement yesterday when it was still sub judice. Wilkins, Scott Mo and others have made inappropriate comments supporting her so I agree with Baz, the chances of the bloke getting a fair trial by jury is pretty much zilch. Judge only from here on in surely.

There is no provision for judge only trials in the ACT. Likewise in some other States, eg, Victoria. Pell would have preferred judge only but it wasn't available.

Sanity finally prevails and they abandon the case with a cover up excuse.

The amount of politically driven prosecution's in this country is now a serious concern.

It is looking likely the lawyers acting for Higgins will be seeking compensation for a million dollars from the federal government. Apparently that action starts today. Higgins also indicating of sueing ex minister Linda Reynolds.
Meanwhile lehrmann is also reported to be weighing up his options for some type of compensation.
