Absolutely disgraceful that WA has lost a Federal seat , to make matter worse its being moved to Victoria.

WA the power house economy of the country and we get less and less representation in Canberra at the expense of a state that is a financial dead weight with a massive negative trade deficit.

More and more reason for WA to go it alone.

Yes, is not the best of news to be hearing.                                                                                                        It all reverts back to the population distribution, and that's why it happened. And apparently the Northern Territory has also lost one.

Yep Unfortinatley population determines a lot of this , but its not the best indicator of national contribution, it just means WA will get even less say at the National Table while we pay the bills for Victoria.

Bazza it seems it is voter which suggests that the voter registration in the these areas has reduced which is hard to fathom.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

On the flip side, if we're experiencing negative population growth I say that's a good thing for the employment, wage growth and housing affordability prospects of my children and grandchildren. Yes, less representation but I don't see WA ever being front of mind in policy development in Canberra. The State Government represents WA interests, not our Federal reps, they are useless. I'll keep telling people the joint's a shithole, stay away.

I do agree that a smaller sustainable population is actually a good thing long term, cant see how the state gov represents wa interests given they have zero control over the big ticket national items like Immigration, Defence, Pensions and so on.

Its not the Federal MPs that are the issue its the Federation set up thats the problem there just arent enough Federal MPs in the lower house from WA to have any impact compared to the East and its getting less.

What has been fascinating to observe is the Liberals and their supporters repudiation of states' rights and now support the federal government over state governments.  It is a truly remarkable change given their attitude for decades previously.

gtr: the Liberal leadership watch sky channel too much, forgetting that most people in the state see only Ric and Sue. Norman Moore, always consistent on this question, put forward a motion in support of secession as recently as a couple of years ago; it was one of the reasons Canberra changed the GST; talk about an organisation having a collective memory loss.
