I believe Ross Lyon is crippling this club and people are voting with their feet. Only 35,000 turned up, pretty sure that is the lowest crowd so far at Optus Stadium. I could cop it if it was in the low to mid 40's as down to the weather but I think the reason is deeper than that.

Ross Lyon is on the nose not only because of the sexual harassment saga but also his coaching methods and team selections. No plan B it's just all in with those he trusts who he is closest to, refuses to pick a back up ruckman and now he's paid the price most likely as it looks like Sandi will miss a week with concussion and with Sean Darcy unavailable will be forced to pick either Michael Apness who doesn't look like a ruckman to me and was recruited as a key forward who could pinch hit in the ruck but has missed considerably more football than he has played since he came to the club.

Or pick a first gamer in Scott Jones who I believe should have got a run before now to give Sandi some back up but that would be like lambs to the slaughter for the young man against Collingwood at the MCG against one of the form ruckmen of the competition in Brodie Grundy and big American Mason Cox.

It might be hard for freo fans to see but the club is in a lot more trouble than most are willing to admit, as DD pointed out Michael Apness is there "new" current back-up ruckman. How do you get to a point where you stifle the development of young players(ruckman) at Peel and grab your tallest forward and turn him into a ruckman when the club is screaming for a forward who can clunk marks. Probably should have kept Zac Clarke on the list as insurance.
Yesterday highlighted just how important Sandi is to the team, after he went off the ground it was panic stations. If Sandi gets injured for an extended period of time things will get a worse for Ross very quickly. I think some of the young recruits have been great, but seriously what sort of environment have they been put into.

When we SD played Peel a few weeks back they had no shortage of ruckmen running around Darcy, Jones, Meek, Apeness & Strnadica whilst Cox was playing at CHF and yet Lyon just refuses to play any of them as a back up for Sandilands instead the CHF that day as the makeshift ruck...the 2 pure ruckmen seems to work ok at WCE?!

That's the bit that makes no sense, rebuilding knowing u need a Ruckman in 1-2 years yet not develop one at AFL level.

I reckon Ross thinks they are going to go deep into finals, might explain a few things

We may disagree with a whole host of things,But I will defend your right against the parasites who constantly troll in here.

As least I enjoyed the match as pies were $2 each but Alby was $9.50. ( sorry not to troll)

When Ross first arrived at Fremantle he built the game against ferocious pressure. Which was affective and had us playing pretty good football for three to four seasons. However though it was our reliance on Pavlich to score that hurt the team and when he left we couldn't and have not since filled the gap.

He has tried to change the game plan but he either hasn't got the players on the list to execute the game plan or the players aren't good enough.

Skill execution has also been a problem under Ross Lyon in my opinion. We got away with it between 2012-2015 due to the players we had on our list but now the poor skills of the team are evident for everyone to see.

Recruiting hasn't been great either. Not just over the last 5-6 years but realistically over the duration of the club. I know it's easy looking back know with the benefit of hindsight but we seem to get it wrong more than we get it right. Or another take on it is do we develop our kids as well as others. Just have a look at the likes of Sydney and Hawthorn.

Was watching Mark MacLure on AFL 360 last Wednesday and he made a good point regarding Sports Science. He basically said all the money that is spent in this area of the game hasn't really reduced the injuries that happened in the game 20-30 years ago. He suggested that more money should be spent on recruiting. I tend to agree with him. Freo should be prioritising having the best recruiting staff to make sure we get the best kids into our club to give us the best chance of reaching a grand final and possibly winning one.

When I watch Freo I can't see the type of football they want to play. The players all look lost and appear to be second guessing themselves out on the field.

Sydney & Geelong seem to recruit instant players . Kelly & Menegola were two that got away.

With due respect to Mr MacClure, AFL football today is vastly different to 20-30 years ago. The pace of the game and players, and their fitness, size and strength means it is inevitable that injuries are going to occur frequently in what is a "violent" game.

I can't see how more money into recruitment is going to reduce injuries. Even the best players spend time on the sidelines because of the nature of their chosen profession.

He wasn’t saying that spending more money on recruitment will reduce injuries. He was saying that all the money spent on sports science hasn’t reduced player injuries. Therefore spend more money on recruitment instead.
