a legend of W.A footy and just 1 state game for the dream team. 6 times all australian so an A.F.L great without question.

does footy have all-rounders? i have heard players described as a "utility" maybe that is a more apt description of Pav.

Gonna be harsh here Anchor and downgrade legend for out & out champion. Unfortunately to be called a legend you generally have to win a flag. Gary Ablett Snr and Nathan Buckley for instance I wouldn't refer to as legends even if they are 2 of the better players to have ever played as they didn't win flags. In saying that I hope Pav is part of a winning premiership team before he finishes because if ever a player deserved to be a legend it's him. One of the very few players ever who out on the park could lay legitimate claim to being able to do it all.

If I was a Freo supporter maybe I'd be slightly less harsh. He is definitely a legend of the Dockers Footy Club. I'd have him right alongside Dale Kickett who gains legendary status in my books for nothing less than throwing haymakers galore at Eagles players in 'that' derby :P

Question please. So if Stephen Michael didnt win a premiership at the percieved highest level of the game, is he still a legend?

Used the word 'generally' . There will be exceptions of course. The legend of some of these players mentioned here will be that they didn't win flags. Great debate thou. Bob Skilton, Lockett and TI for sure, Bunton Snr i embarrassingly dont know enough of to rightfully comment. Paul Kelly is one of my favourite players ever but i wouldnt refer to him as a legend. Guess the answer might lie in who will they still talk about 50yrs from now as legends generally get passed down thru generations. Maybe because we dish out the champion tag so easily these days we need to describe players as legends.

Question for you all. Jim Stynes had a great AFL career, no doubt, but if he had stood toe to toe, face to face in the ruck against Stephen Michael , at a stage when both where in the prime of their football careers, how do you think his day would pan out????

Stynes would hold his own quite comfortably against Michael.. he did win a Brownlow remember when he was up against some very good ruckmen..

You made a good point there, the whole thing of course, is subjective to personal opinions. It is interesting to note that a 180cm 75kg ruckman is the biggest legend of all time, there has been a number one record made about him and they sing about him at grand finals and he never played in a premiership - Roy Cazaly

I must admit, I am with A/M here. Pavlich is an outright legend. What he has done for the Dockers will have him still talked about 50/80/100 years down the road.
As you are probably aware, Freo are right down the list of my favourite teams in the AFL but I will be making sure I watch Pav in his big 300. Massive milestone and I hope he has a blinder.
