THE DEVASTATING run of serious knee injuries in the game has struck West Perth with versatile 21-year-old Kody Manning rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament at training this week cruelling ending his 2013 season.

Manning was involved in a relatively innocuous contest at training on Tuesday night with West Perth getting ready to take on East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval this Saturday following the club's first two losses of 2013, but then he felt something go in his knee and scans have revealed the worst.

Manning has now played 29 games for the Falcons and was currently enjoying his best and most consistent season in a new role up forward where his primary job was to put on enormous pressure, but he also has bobbed up to kick five goals.

FFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK
I had heard something about this but hoped it didnt have fact attached ......

This young man for me is the courage & guts of the team.
The work he did in the back line last year and now the work he has done to this point in the forward line this year has largely gone under the radar and as I have seen it his weekly game has been under enormous improve.

I have to be honest and say I havent seen another player in the WP team with his manner of courage, head over the ball efforts or the smacking strength of his tackles on opposition players, they all knew who he was on the field and who to watch out for, but he kept hammering them.
it will have to be a rethink in this area for Bill and huge footy boots to fill.

I hope this young man keeps his mind focused and his will power strong to get himself through this, to be fitter and stronger for next year!!

I for one will look forward to seeing him run out again in the WP jumper.

I am sure as a supporter I will see him in the stands, the rooms, still at practice supporting his footy team - thats the kind of young man I am sure he is.
I might even have a word......

Kody from what I have seen is a real Team man and we will see him around at the games. Some things arent fair in Footy especially the Crap last year.
Hope his injury repairs fast and he is back soon. We have a 3 week break after EF game but not sure how bad that Knee is. If it needs operation could be the season. Hopefully it is not to bad.

It's an ACL Cardy, season over for him unfortunately, won't see him back till this time next year, it is bad luck for the kid as I believe some AFL clubs started showing interest in him.

Been a bad week for the Falcons as Kepler suffering the same fate, good luck to him also.

Cardy
I agree that last years crap that this young man had to deal was harsh and seems to have now been shown up by the accusor being 'gagged' about the incident and then going down himself to "BITING" charge( Even the RSPCA call this a canine act)and then not apearing this year to play at all (injury?) - more likely from embarrassment and burnt ego.

As for Kodys opportunities with the BIG BOYS - if he shows the same guts and determination in getting back to the park as he has shown weekly in his games the same interested parties will keep their eyes on him to see how he manages himself to get right to return.
Its how we handle adversity thats as important as the ability to play on the day, this kids ticker is big I am sure - he will not let dreams slip away!!

Thanks for that info Falcon.. As you say bad news with Keplar as well because I am sure we would of seen him in a WP jumper this season and always handy in the close ones. On top of all that Captain Courageous out with the Hammy. All sorely missed as good club men and a asset to the side on the playing field.
Its all part of footy unfortunately and sure other clubs having the same problems

Heres an article from the West re Kody

I see Hilly is out with an injury for Freo as well.. Another WP boy

Huge game for WP this week, some of their more experienced players need to stand up & play better, it seems to be the same players (Nelson, Black & Hutchings) who are always in our best. Also some changes need to be made up forward as this is our major problem, we dont score heavily enough. How about we start to change our mids deep in our forward line instead of bringing them off every 5 minutes? Imagine if Hutchings & van Berlo played this role because they both can kick goals.

0946 Colts havent got off to a good start. Looks like EF are overpowering them at this stage going into the 2nd qtr.
EF 4.6 (30) WP 0.2 (2)

We seem to be having a drought from the spring to the river to the ocean...

Am I correct in saying that the colts have struggled for two years now and the reserves seem to have stumbled ineffectively for the same period - ??

I am not astute enough to pick the problem here - maybe those with a better observation on the issue might step up to comment, but for both teams there appears to not be ongoing development - atleast not showing on the scorebaord

In fairness to the Colts a few of their players are playing up so they are short of their talents.
Ressies almost got into the 4 last year and were up and down. (Like this year) 2/3 players are playing at a standard which would be acceptable in the League side but it was hard to get a spot when we won 4 in a row albeit against the bottom sides.
The League well today will tell the story. Good side on paper and EF have some outs as well.
Reading between the lines you see Problems Growler and you could be right. Now off to watch the Ressies...WIN

Great win by the League today. Will bring a smile to the Cardy faithful.
Ressies went down. Enjoyed the game as they showed a lot of endeavour.
Just cant finish off. We had our opportunities with us being in the forward 50 a lot of the time but just didnt finish off.
Listened to the Post match comments and Was impressed with Embers comment which hit the nail on the head... Being able to finish off. Last week was a classical example of that when 5 goals up and BLEW it.
The team is better than that and great to see they are addressing the probems.

Finally a great team effort by the League and they showed you can win any game if you have the right mindset and Match plan.

3 Weeks off now....could be a problem after todays game getting back on track but time will tell v Perth

Biggest Fine of the game goes to Blacky for that pass in the forward line in the last qtr where he was 30 mtrs out passed the ball and opposition got possession and took it up and scored a goal. But shit happens and we got the 4 points.
