Made the trip down to Freo to watch the Colts and Ressies on Saturday.
Turned out to be a bit of let down with both sides going down.

Colts

SF controlled the game from start to finish. Our guys looked overwhelmed and certainly outclassed by a good SF unit.
Final score
SF 14.3 187 def WP 5.11.
Didnt really see any standouts for WP but felt the Acres boys performed well. A couple of others tried hard as did all the team.
SF controlled the movement of the football and I thought (and the coach did mention this) that our guys should of manned up one on one where they were more competitive and did not give SF Colts so much control. Lot of work to be done and will have to go back to basics and move up from there. Sure once the teething problems are sorted out the Boys will assert themselves and win a few games.

Reserves
This game looked all over at half time but WP came back in the Third qtr to even the scoreline. It was a great effort but we failed to continue this on in the last qtr. Wether the SF Players slackened off a lot in the third qtr or not is unknown but thier coach got them back on track for the last qtr to run out winners.
Paul Sanzone obviously had a few words to say as he had a lock in after the game. I am sure the team has the ability to bounce back and win a few as the season progresses. There were a couple (no names no pack drill) who I will not name but they just made up the numbers. Bluntly they should really have a good look at themselves and consider whether they really should be putting on the WPFC Jumper!

Scores
SF 14 14 98 Def WP 12 7 79

I saw a few players who are not far off League games if an opening appears for them.
Shaun Marusic came into the game in the 2nd half and showed some good form but he was not consistant.
Christopher Shannon tried hard in Defence and had plenty of work to do in the first half but held up well.
Shane Bonney had flashes of brilliance as he usually does.
Drew Rhode is starting to come back to his 2012 form and after a few more games will improve.
Mitchell Brown looked ok but like a lot of others only appeared in spurts.

The Big news is I consider Frank Stockley who has lost weight and definately fitter ready to give Chris a hand in league. He won the majority of the ruck duels and his ground play was brilliant. Frank played well and I saw he was rested up forward where he continued playing well. Great target for our midfield and kicked 3 goals.
I would give him MVP AND BOG for WP in this game.
It certainly lifted me to see him perform so well as we are certainly lacking a second ruckman and he will slot in easily.

After these two games I needed a COLD BEER so headed up to the Shark Pit at EF. The result of that game is known and EF are certainly showing the goods.
Thanks to the EF guys and Ben from Subi had a great time.

Thanks Winger. Glad to see someone reads my posts besides me :) Thanks for the input.
Hope the news on Frank was good as he was up there
one thing I forgot to mention was the Reserves 2nd qtr that was a nightmare.
We lost the game in that qtr even though we pegged SF back in the 3rd.
The error count was incredible :( For example in the back line we kicked the ball out of bounds on the full 4 times close to goal which resulted in at least 3 goals for SF!!! Handovers resulted in a couple more so when you look at the score that was a major concern for the coach (Paul Sanzone). Ok 3rd qtr we came back but that 2nd qtr killed us against a team we should of beaten easily.
WE WONT MAKE THOSE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN!....I have a funny feeling when Paul locked the rooms he would of made that point and looking at his face when he walked into the change rooms I dont think the guys will forget it.
Lets hope for a better result this week against Peel Reserves who are not doing much better.

West Perth unlike some other clubs play colts players in the legaue team and some are in ressies.
Results on scoreboard might not be there but you can not fault the transistion to leage football.
East Perth and South Fremantle should look at this.

astro this is a cyclic thing mate.....WP haven't always done this, just depends on what's available at the time.....bet you a few beers WP don't promote too many of their current crop of colts this year, as they have done these past few years....I remember EF playing David Swallow when he was 16 a few years back.....Ryder, Kennedy and Andrew Swallow a few years before that when they were all 17.....

beside Robertson, I can't see too many of WP 2013 colts boys doing what Rodda, Nelson, Black, Antonio etc have done of late, feel free to correct me wrong though mate.....bit silly to single out EP and SF.....especially SF.....christ Kersten, Burnett, Maskos, Martinez, Miller etc are a few SF colts boys of late getting a run in the league and reserves sides.

You are joking arent you astro???
I put a post on FG years ago that showed in 2008 Swans had Yarran, Naitanui, Garlett, Pearce, Wolfenden, Banfield, Notte, Davis, Pullman in our losing GF team to Subi that year that were all eligible to play in our Colts Premiership team that morning ..9 players in total & Walters & N.Jetta also had played a few League games during that year as well but played in the Colts on GF day!

Hey ASTRO thats a pretty sweeping statement and I can see where you are comming from but any club that keeps Colts down in colts just to have a dominant team is certainly not helping the player or the club process. I suspect SF are going through a bit of a rebuilding stage (Doggie?) and would certainly not jeopardize or not give future league players a run in the ressies and League side especially if they are not doing to well in the league Comp? (Yes I know early days and SF will win their fair share of games this year over better sides :) )
Ok WP has about 3 guys eligible for Colts still but retain them in the league side if not reserves because these players are up to a high level in their development and truthfully are playing really well. Ok we could drop them back to colts and give the Colts a better chance but what would that achieve????

Sorry mate but you are right off base with that comment. But see your point

Now Lets feel sorry for the Peel and EP colts who in 2014 WILL NOT GET LEG IN in the league side. This does nothing for their career in the League that scouts look at. OK we have the u18 championships etc where they could dominate the selections but not as good as a weekly showing of their wares.
I have noticed most supporters and media only look at the LEAGUE and anything outside that does not get a mention.

The good news is the WAFL sides (the 7) will certainly gain some good players who move on from these 2 clubs. I can see the arseholes at the WAFC bringing in a rule where Colts and Reserves players would be on a fixed contract with Peel and EP just to prevent this happening. Do you agree??

Good comment anyway and nice to have a talk about WAFL footy..

Ignoring your alignment crap, oh well, There are some rules abt players eligible for the 18's process that restricts where they can play. I suspect (have not investigated)that the colts eligible players playing up aren't 18's qualifed.

The clubs are playing the best players in the levels that they think will suit the club and the player.
