Hi Growler.. thought you would like my thoughts on the game and a few observations seeing you are not around.
It was a great day for the club with us winning all three grades.
Colts by 6
Reserves by 10
League by 7 SHIT why 7.. if you get my drift
I got there in time for the Reserves game and it looked interesting in the first qtr where Peel put up a effort and it was 4 all at qtr time but they must of run out of steam as we started from the the 2nd qtr and never looked back.
Christopher Yarren played a good game and is not far off a league berth.
Brayden Antonio was best on Ground and wont be out of the league side for long either.
Something that showed his courage is when at 3 qtr time he took his boot off and had a blister you couldnt jump over. He ripped the outer skin off so it was down to the second layer. Not a nice sight. The medic taped it up and he had an incredible last qtr. I would say he had fun getting the tape off after the game.. It sent a shiver down my spine.
Razor, Crispy and Manzone were ok and were involved in a lot of plays. Good attitude by both guys in doing their best for the club.
Papertalk disappointed me and just couldnt get into the game? (6 disposals) I was very impressed with him in the scratch matches. Needs more time in the Ressies for sure until shows improvement.

The League game..
I would have to say with 15 Dockers having a run before their season starts I was a bit worried with the likes of Barlow,Blakely, Duffield amongst others being in the Peel side
I was hoping Peel would give them limited runs making life a bit easier for us but it didnt happen. Lyons was there and incredibly was seen talking to the players and trying to Rev them up. Cam Shepard must of felt a bit out of it... Dont mind the guy as last year he had a go at the Dockers for not letting him use Dockers players for the full game and leaving him a bit short on the bench. Cam must be congratulated on at least having the GUTS to have a go.
It is good to see Peel President John Ditchburn had a swipe at the WAFC as well big time and it is encouraging to see at least this club is interested in being part of the WAFL AND NOT JUST A Training team for the Dockers who have NO interest in the WAFL at all.

An interesting thing is the Dockers and Eagles tape all their WAFL games for the coaching staff to look at after a WAFL game.. Seems a shame they cant share a bit of this Footage with the WA Media

They had their cameraman on the southern end of the oval.
Now back to the game
Good attendance and a nice queue which is a change when I went out for a smoke between the Ressies and League. Great to see people are supporting the club.
Umpires I was a bit concerned with the lineup as it appeared we had a couple from the SF game turning up again and that was a pretty bad performance. It started off poorly in the first qtr where a lot of free kicks were missed and soft ones paid but dont know what happened at qtr time in the centre as after that they performed well and it was a complete turnaround. I realise a lot of WP supporters might not agree but I was happy with their umpiring all up.
Negatives
WP Going Code Blue at the 25 minute mark of I think was the 2nd qtr.. It turned into a disaster...
The players.
Striker had an incredible game and above the level of the Peel Dockers players. Best on ground for WP.
Kody Manning is a legend. In one incident he was up against 3 Peel players but never gave up. He had a second effort then a third and in the fourth effort won the ball and kicked it forward and it resulted in a goal for WP. It is something I can still picture and I am sure it lifted the rest of the players. Kody also kicked 3 goals.
Chris Keunen should be given a medal.. He was up againts Johnathon Griffen who had 53 HO according to the stats but they do not tell the story. Chris won a lot of the hit outs from stoppages and methinks the stats are wrong. Chris was brilliant in general play as well and won the ball a few times. Now the thing that earns my respect is he twisted his ankle in the first qtr and was limping throughout the game and obviously in some pain but worked through the barrier and didnt give an inch. Chris is a incredible player and person who is a credit to the club.
Michael Lourey found his sea legs and kicked 4 goals. He looked good in general play and I am a bit suspicious of the stats stating he had 8 disposals.. Looked a few more to me.
The good news is we have found a Good forward player and a target for our midfield
Luke Meadows impressed and this player is going to go a long way.
Browne and Kerr played solid games
Nelly and Blacky racked up the possessions and in doing so give our side a edge with possession.
Marcus Adams Now this guy certainly took it to Peel and created a problem for them. He is an asset and I am bloody glad we got him at WP.
All up a great team effort by all 3 grades
