No STT. There is no comparison whatsoever between Clark and Atkins. No way is this the standard WAFL CEO appointment.
Marty was previously a policeman. He did have some experience as a Football Manager but a CEO with considerable business background ? No.
Russell Clark does have previous experience as a WAFL CEO, at Lathlain in fact, as well at Peel Thunder where he oversaw the redevelopment of Rushton Park. In addition to that he has been CEO of Greyhounds WA, Softball WA and Albany Chamber of Commerce.
Bear in mind the thorough processes that the club has gone through in it’s search. Some of Perth’s leading business leaders were consulted in preparing terms of reference, calling applications, sorting through 80 applicants, conducting interviews with the interim cut of 30 and submission of the final cut of 3 to the Board for consideration. The Board did the final due diligence before making the appointment.
Arguably this is the most important appointment since the days of the late, great Jack O’Dea.
Welcome back to the club Russell. All the best. A huge task ahead.

Is dad, Peter, coming in as part of the deal.

He could do wonders in glamming up the HJ's stall, which apparently is the major income source at MRP.

Nothing vanilla about this appointment, he would have been highly sought after at any WAFL club I imagine with his extensive background. The old firm getting back to the club is bearing fruit. Football and business nous.

Exactly DD. We watched it gradually evolving last season and the momentum built up is growing further as we approach a new season. Exciting times ahead but it will not be done any quicker by waving a magic wand.
I don't understand how some Dees supporters are so negative. What can they not see?

I couldn't be happier Smokey hopefully good things off the field start rubbing off on the field. I'd be very content if we end up with exactly what Peel has got or better. No better man in charge who knows the blueprint. ;)

And we might have snuck in just in time. Looks like the cashed up bogans are in the hunt for a new Operations Manager. Not sure if that's football operations or club operations.

My understanding is the president was the only one against the appointment and the rest of the board voted for Clarke as the new CEO. So all those saying the Pres got his man, are wrong. I don't know much about Russell and I don't remember him as a player but I hear good things. For me he needs to do something to bring people through the gate. Face painting and calling running races wont cut it - new initiatives please Mr Clark.
