Has the ground been shortened in the redevelopment.

App 1963 in a scratch match against SF I saw John Todd kick a drop kick goal from further behind the centre.
I thought I had heard of the shortening of the ground.
But not sure.

Great goal Cody keep up the good work.

Cannot help you there DF. I'm unaware of the previous dimensions of Lathlain Park. The current length is 165 metres. And I think 130 metres width? Perhaps some one out there in internet land knows the previous size?

Yes they have shortened the ground. All to fit in with our friendly co tenants requirements.
I saw Cable kick a drop kick goal from just forward of the wing back in the late sixties.

Not meant to take any thing away from Cody's goal it was a beauty on today's standards.

Even I could kick a drop kick a lot further than a drop punt.
Although in all fairness I think the modern players have perfected the drop punt.

Cesspit Cabes was one of the best drop kicks I have ever seen, not necessarily the longest.
We had some beauties back in the day some of the longest being the full backs Sarre etc.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

DF, Brian Sarre was a beautiful kick but don't forget John Quartermaine. His drop kicks out of the goal square were consistently long to the centre circle.
I cannot understand why teams persist with silly short kicks switching from side to side and ending up turning it over. If you have a designated kicker with a consistently long kick why not get it halfway home with one long kick. Surely the game plan strategists can devise a play to take advantage of the long kick.
As an Eagles supporter I wish that Shannon Hurn would kick it long more often than not.
If you have the right strategy you wont turn it over and get caught on the rebound.

Smokey I recall John Quartermaine recording a 78m drop kick. In more recent times I reckon Dean Dick certainly being a handy kick from full back. As far as goal kicking is concerned hard to go past Murray Couper for accuracy over a journey!
