As many have said, the ruck is also a real concern. I can't fault Eyres' effort, but his impact around the ground is well below what is required. He has played 69 games - that in itself highlights our deficiencies, because he'd still be waiting to debut at Subi or Souths - and has averaged 10 disposals a game. Worse still, he averages only 2 marks a game. Some ruckmen can push forward and stretch the defence but not Eyres - he has 11 career goals. He is solely a tap ruckman, which is irrelevant in the modern game. But it seems that, yet again, we have no other option. I would rather see Garstone if fit, play forward. We can try Anstey, but he is probably less effective around the ground than Eyres.

Stand the Test wrote: Great post Cess, agree totally re Marlin, looked like he was a real find in 2016 and then 2017 a wreck. There was injuries etc so if fit he could be a big big improver.

Agree with comments re Marlin. He was cruelled a bit with injury in 2017 and then when he returned they played him up forward which I don't think suited him.
I would like to see him fully fit and slotting back into defence.

Marlin had a groin problem which hindered his preseason, hence meaning his season was a bit stop/start as he couldn’t get the desired amount of work into his body before round one.

Hopefully he’s all fit now and can have a good crack at this years preseason. He’s definitely in our best 22, probably down back but I think he is capable of pinch hitting up forward when required.

Just on the fact of players having uninterrupted preseasons this goes a long way to having them play good football. As I mentioned the other day, what can we realistically expect from McKenna or other players that might not be back until January or February if they have missed a large part of preseason.

Lennon was being mentioned in draft discussions in 2016, hopefully he's injury free and had some natural improvement. Collard and Ninyette as small forwards could be a handy combination

I think that Marlin has something to offer at this level. A lot depends on his fitness and how Snake uses him.

Mr AFL wrote: A couple of good questions were asked by the members in attendance at the AGM on Sunday. One member asked the board as to why there were no nominations for the current vacancies that were up for renewal. The board said that is because there wasn't and this member and a couple of others stood up and said that there were a couple of people willing to put their hands up but were advised not to. One was apparently even told that he was too old to apply for the board. The board responded with some carefully chosen words but I couldn't help but feel that they were backtracking a little bit.

I would like to know a little more about this. Are there still vacancies? I'm not sure there is an age limit to on the board is there? Aren't all board members voted in by eligible members?

PD the process is very simple. As I understand it, election to the Board is for two years and staged so that half the Board are up for re-election this year and the other half next year.
Vacancies occur at the end of each term and nominations are called for. If there are 4 vacancies and only 4 nominations then there is no ballot required so members have no vote and the 4 nominations are automatically elected. If there were, say, 6 nominations for 4 vacancies, then the members would get to vote for 4 of the nominees of their choice.
Casual vacancies occur if a Board member resigns and in this instance a replacement would be co-opted by the Board for the balance of the term.
As far as I know, there is no age limit on nominees. Any financial member of the club is entitled to nominate.
This year there were 4 vacancies and only 4 nominations were received so no ballot required.

If any member is more than inclined to nominate for the Board they should be proactive, get down to the club, ask for a nomination form, ask any questions about the process and get on with it.
The club gives plenty of notice to members when calling for nominations..
Any supporter (non member) who wants to nominate, join the club as a member and then go through the process.

Smokey I know one loyal member who did EXACTLY as you have described, was invited in to speak with the CEO and others and put his ideas forward and is still waiting for the nomination form. This was some time ago. It's a boys club, Marty hadn't got a clue what he's doing and is dragging this club into oblivion.
