Was it in 76 or 77 where you headed south on the Fremantle train line to the Claremont Showgrounds rather than heading north to $ubi Oval on WAFL GF day Grassy? :pinch:

Correct me if I'm wrong but Perths score in the 77 grand final is still the highest on record for a WA grand final.

Grassy that great little centreman Malcolm Day won the Simpson Medal in 1976 GF and Wim Rosbender won it in 1977.

Mal Day was a back pocket player Smokey. John Quartermaine's right hand man.

Grassy wrote: Just going through the scores of 1976,which reminded me of 1 glaring error in the scores.

In the Round 16 Loss to East Fremantle, the WAFL Online and Wiki scores gave it as such - East Fremantle 25.17 167 v Perth 14.14 98.

Now if memory serves, the Football Register I had as a kid,had Old Easts winning, but by 10 Goals Less.

15.17 107 - 14.14 98

Add to that, our Percentage in Football Register was about 122%. as opposed to Online and Wiki search. But wait, there's more!Old Easts give Swans a hiding later that year at Bassendean. But not by 115 points,if I remember correctly. It was more like Swan Districts 6.17 53 v East Fremantle 15.18 108.

East Freo was credited with just over 100%,but again,I swear that is incorrect, because I am sure it was in the low 90's.
I won't say who,as I did ring the club late in the year about this and pointed it out to the boys in The History Hall. But I hope they chase up this historical wrong,so as to do justice to our Back to Back Premiers, because in Round 4 of '77,we are only credited with 20.18 against South Fremantle, which is certainly Incorrect, because we kicked our record score that day of 30.18 198,which to this day, remains our Club Record in WANFL/WAFL Club Record.

Grassy, check out my site I have the correct scores as you remember - the only problem I have is that in 1976 I have Perth finishing second with 14-7 and 122.79% and SF 3rd with 14-7 and 122.50% but EP played SF in 2SF so either Perths or SF percentage is wrong- I'll cross check with the official WAFL historians team sheets for 1976 later today and see what scores are on that as I obviously have an error somewhere in my scores too.

Yep. Total separate from waflonline - my site is a personal project although I have used the player stats from there though. I have not used scores from there generally.

Thanks Grassy - I now have corrected a couple of my scores for SF which has now edges them into 2nd on my 1976 ladder. I've identified a potential error in points for and against for C and WP so ill do some research tonight to see what's going on there.

We had the '66 Premiership Reunion last week. I think the '76 Reunion is scheduled in for end of June or early July.

Remember a Saturday that one Robert Wiley put 8 on us down at Fremantle Oval - although not sure whether it was 1976 might have been 1977 too ?

Those were days when rovers did kick bags - he was a dead-eye dick shot on the run
