Well for a start that team would have a ruck division of Michael and Moss which would have been the best ruck combo followed by daylight.
Was bemused to see the footage of Ti having a set shot at goal from ten metres out with a point the difference in the 81 grand final and kicking it out on the full, surely the production team could have Found a better highlight from a titanic career!!
Southerner if there is any more of these little chats with past champions post them on here again thoroughly enjoyed it

PS sorry to hijack the TI thread Southerner, he was indeed a great player. I recall his 200th game which was at Bassendean when thousands of doggies supporters came up on the train. Swans did spoil the party that day though.....

no problem here mate
Stephen Michael put up several big games in finals - lots of goals came directly from his influence on play
The tapwork & the handball to either Maurice or Noel sometimes Benny Vigona was near on telepathy
or he'd just take the ball & just bolt away from the centre
and unfortunately , until Toddy got the right cattle branded Swan Districts wore the brunt
of it in a few finals

Bease --great post, I enjoyed reading it -- that was a good effort by SD, one all the more satisfying when you think in regards Collingwood's role as a powerful club in Victoria as you said -- I mean they made a bloody play or tv show about them.

Another point in respect of 1982 is that your beloved black and whites could have done a unique double that season, winning the Escort cup and the premiership, had Todd not prioritised the WAFL. There were two players, once again, from the WAFL whom may have got RFC over the line, Rioli and Wiley, against the full SD squad. No thoughtful RFC fan on here would have seriously claimmed clear cut favouritism in such a game without those two being on the player's list.

in 1979 CL were beating Haw in that cup game away from home at night, we never played night football remember so that should have been a big advantage to the Victorians -
in 1981, had Cl and Carlt played each other, Carl may have got over the line with the help of Fitzpatrick. But that is the point the Victorian lovers on here forget.

AR the most telling of all those Escort Cup results of that time was when SD wearing our traditional Black & White striped jumper pantsed Collingwood (who had played in 5 of the previous 6 VFL GFs and a Prelim Final in the other) at a cold and wet VFL Park Melbourne in 1982!
Collingwood also wore a predominately white jumper in that match (remember that one Eddie)!!

How is that the most telling of all those Escort Cup results? The eventual Wafl premiers of that season beating a side who finished 1 game and percentage off the bottom of the VFL ladder by 10 points. The game was played in mid april which casts doubts on how cold VFL park was that fateful evening.

For me Souths complete annihilation of Carlton at East Fremantle oval by 89 points in 1980 or Claremont's wins over Geelong and Hawthorn at VFL Park same year are more impressive.

You must have missed the blatant point about Collingwood having played in 5 of the previous 6 VFL GF's and a Prelim in the other? As you pointed out the game was in April which is early in that 82 season, whilst quite obviously you never attended a night game at "Arctic" VFL Park?

I have attended night matches at VFL park but i don't think that has much relevance - nor does Carringbush losing the 1977 VFL GF. By 1982 they were holding up the ladder and won just 4 games for the season.

I was at the 1980 pre-season match between Carlton & South Fremantle and to be entirely fair the Viccos were missing at least 2 maybe 3 of their topliners
We had a couple out as well but drilled those Vicco flogs a new arsehole and some
Carlton would have known about Basil but then they came against Michael , Rioli & Vigona and got smashed
