Seems like every day I have a look someone else is departing SF for the upcoming year.
Apart from Wilson and Higgins, we lost Motlop in the draft and of course Parker back to the AFL. That I suppose was all expected. But now Dragovich has gone to the SW comp and signed with the Eaton Boomers and Cody Ninyette has signed with Gosnells, both blokes in the prime, mid 20's in a successful side and they have gone. Now it seems Blake Schlensog will be snapped up by someone from the train on list, looks like Geelong. If not I doubt whether he gets back to WA with what's going on ATM. Then Blechendyn and McQuilkin get asked to train with the WCE for the remaining 2 spots. Good on them but its nearly mid Jan and players are being asked to train with no guarantees but could be off your WAFL lists within weeks. Then what?? You try and recruit?? Not likely. I love how players at SF and who come here do so because it may increase their chance of playing AFL, but surely there must be some kind of time restriction to get the AFL lists submitted, not heading into Feb. And financial compensation has to happen for all 2nd tier clubs . . . . what do we actually get when players are "drafted" outside the national draft?? I might be a little sceptic after we have lost Kelly, Pickett, Parker and looks like Schlensog over the past 4 years, did we even get anything for this? Anyway, these are the shitty times we are in right now, (not Covid, new AFL drafting rules etc) but what will SF look like in 2022?? Add Ah Chee and Verrier which is great but the outs have hurt us heaps so far. Can't see anyone joining now but we can still lose players to the AFL. Wish McCarthy was fit and healthy. Kersten?? Kade Stewart?? All players in their mid to late 20's who should be dominating the WAFL at SF. Gonna be an interesting year I think at the kennel this year.

Good post Doggie. I think it's going to be an interesting year full stop. If and when WA opens up I can see games being postponed, modified training sessions, players getting sick, crowd restrictions, partial lockdowns and so on. I think it will impact on the entire competition and every club will experience major disruptions to playing lists. My guess is it's going to take a season or two before things get back to anything like normal.

The Meth Coast are after a ruckman & a midfielder for their two vacancies and they've already taken Jarrod Pickett from us for their reserves side so we'll only lose one more if they do take a Blechynden or a McQuilkin
Schlensog is a loss for sure , he's got a great set of hands and pretty accurate kick on goal
We've got to do a re-build though it's an inevitable in footy at some point in time
Like you say it'll be an interesting year for South and we may miss the finals depending on recruiting of course

not sure but I think Zane returns to us but we can all thank Nisbett & Vozzo for the pig sty of a mess it is - they bleated & whinged like bitches on heat to the WAFC who just caved in to the pair of old moles and just gave them what they wanted

As I've always said they are dictators.  They run the WAFL.  They are the WAFC.

This comes as no surprise to me at all.

If you think back a matter of months I predicted a substantial departure of personnel after last years grand final.

2022 will be a very different year.

There could be more that you don't know about.  It will be a new look SF team that's for sure.
