R.I.P Polly

I would think a State Funeral should be offered to the Farmer family as a mark of respect to a colossus of Australian Football.

Well done on your life Polly, you achieved a lot. I was lucky enough to see him him play a few games. He really was ahead of his time. Now you can sit back and take it easy, RIP Polly.

A few years back there was a reunion of that famous carnival winning side of ours from the 60s and I remember Townsend writing something along the lines of how it was obvious there was one man who was still clearly the leader and commanded everyone’s attention - A fairly incapacitated Polly.
A Giant of the game and state.

And there has to be a bronze statue of the man in full flight outside Optus Stadium.

Sad news today, he is one of those guys you would have loved to watch playing, but unfortunately I was a bit young when he played his last game.
The state government have offered a state funeral.

RIP Polly

I'd like to pay my respects to Polly's family on the passing of the great man. Unlike most posters I saw Polly play against my beloved Cardinals in 1959 & 1960. The man was an absolute freak. I still remember taking myself to the 1960 Grand Final alone and sitting behind the goals at the Subiaco end of the ground at the tender age of 10 years. I was a footy tragic and all my classmates supported East Perth. I was mesmerised and bewildered by Polly's ability and his partner in crime Ted Square Kilmurray. Thankfully if memory serves me correctly we were up by 5 goals at half time and that lead was reduced to 2 or 3 goals by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Cardies ran out comfortable winners in the end by about 5 goals. Like nearly all West Australians I followed Polly's career in Melbourne. We were all so proud of his achievements. To have him return to Perth in 1968 and coach West Perth was a dream come true for me. We should have won the flag in 1968. We were clearly the best team. As an aside I missed three games that year and all were draws!. I'd like to know what the odds of that occurring would have been. The 1969 & 1971 Grand Finals vs the Royals will always live in my memory as the greatest sporting experiences of my life.
I know "Billy Dempsey" & Mel will be hurting big time at your passing. Rest in peace my friend you were the greatest ever.
