Bazza, I know you are clever person but have you never got in the car or gone to a meeting and gone damn I forgot this that or the other. I know that in government that it is not really good enough but politicians are just that politicians and someone either forgot or dare I say deliberately omitted to say 'hey perhaps we can use this for ...... Now it is not real flash but lying blatantly or is lying through ignorance or omission. As I said I don't have an issue with the outcome but with the fact that someone did not think it through thoroughly enough.

The Com took the opportunity and hey got a criminal in the process.

I think it's appalling the government didn't write in sufficient safeguards to protect the data after saying it would only be used by Dept of Health for contract tracing when it appears anyone can get their hands on it by obtaining a warrant as the cops did or an FOI request which anyone can do. I'm not saying either of those options would be successful without good cause but they are available nonetheless. Theses are exceptional times and governments are forced to think on their feet...we all get that but this breach of privacy is pretty basic stuff and should have been foreseen when developing the app and everything that goes with it.

There is already enough trouble getting the tinfoil hat brigade to trust vaccinations ( I had mine last Saturday and have had no side effects, the wife had some flu like symptoms for 2 days but right as rain now, we are both mid 60's), anything that gives those types any reason to mistrust anything to do with the Covid situation is going to have detrimental affects on vaccination numbers and contract tracing, and we all know who are the first ones to moan and groan when the next outbreak occurrs and we have a total or partial lockdown. The govt's pharked up, they need to admit it, make the necessary security changes and let the public know what they have done, but this state government seems to have major issues with admitting when they stuff up, look at the current health ministers performance, or lack thereof.

Exactly BC, when creating this check in app front of mind was the privacy of the public is paramount so that it must be used for contact tracing only. For anyone to suggest oops we forgot to write in a legal framework to prevent anyone else getting their hands on it including the police is laughable.

Dawson said the cops wanted to use it to find evidence a person in hotel quarantine escaped quarantine which he used his discretion to deny but that goes to show the mentality of the cops as soon as this app came out. They thought you bewdy we’ll be able to use this as a crime fighting tool. 

Old McGoo fucked up and he needs to own it and how long did he know the cops were using it for this purpose? I suspect from the get go. He has been on the record as saying he asked the Police Commissioner not to use it. Amateur hour in the West Australian Kremlin led by Vladimir McGowan.

Apparently McGoo knew back in April the cops had been using it and asked Dawson not to access the data to which he refused. I'm with Dawson on this one in that if information is available to solve major crimes then why wouldn't you access it? The key is to make it unavailable to anyone other the intended users by either design or legislation which this government didn't do from the outset.

The faux indignation that has been expressed in this thread is problematic.  Where was the indignation when Howard LIED about children being thrown into the ocean?   Or if you prefer more recent examples, where is the indignation and demands for sackings when the Morrison government paid 20+ million dollars for some land for the second Sydney airport which was around 10 times what it was worth?

Who should be sacked for allegedly not telling the PM that there were allegations of a serious sexual assault not far from the PM's own office?  Who has been brought to account for the fiasco of the replacement subs programme?  The sports' rort?  Why didn't Morrison resign when he chose to have a holiday in Hawaii rather than remain in Australia during our bush fire crises from two summers ago?  Which minister has been forced to resign over the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine?

And then we come to the family that has been held in detention for years.  Where is the indignation of the federal government's treatment of this family?

This government is unravelling right before our eyes DD. The opposition doesn't have to do a thing other than stand back and watch a different shit fight unfold almost on a daily basis. If the Libs can attract some halfway decent candidates for the next election, the huge majority McGoo currently enjoys will be eroded big time.

Where is the indignation over the federal LNP government's scandals?  The examples I provided was only a subset.  Perhaps I should have included the Morrison government's support of Clive Palmer's High Court challenge.

Speaking of misleading, what would one call Morrison's commitment that there was going to 4 million COVID-19 vaccine shots administered by the end of March, 2021?  Was that misleading or just pure incompetence that the Morrison government did not even get to a quarter of that figure?  Where were the chants for ministerial responsibility under those circumstances?

I'm pretty sure the EU withholding 3m of those doses had a bit do with it.  I also noticed in today's paper McGoo's redundancy plan tp save the taxpayer 00s of millions of dollars was an absolute winner.  It so far has saved SFA and we have more employed by the state government than ever before.
