Tipped to be the next in line Ben Wyatt has decided to call it quits after the 2021 election due to a family health issue, whatever that is. Seems strange to announce 12 months in advance you are quitting.

Yep this is a real shock

Love to know the real reason, the old Family Reasons tripe rolled out again.

Always struck me as a bloke that was using it as a stepping stone and would be be pretty sure he has a big corporate job lined up, at a mining company or bank.

McGowan will be there for ever and day, and he would of known no chance to grab top job.

Big loss, he's a pretty solid performer in and out of parliament. The Libs would be very happy about that but can't see Liza Harvey bringing them any success.

Unlike some I respect the reasons given and expect that yes he will end up in a good job. The difference has been that unlike the previous government this one has operated on a reasonable royalties return rather than the inflated one the garden gnome had in place.

The man should be respected as a good treasurer and politician unlike others that have gone before him!

Ben W is a good operator. All the best to him on whatever happens after he leaves politics. Huge blow for the Government but lucky for them the Wa Libs are crapola.

Not really sure about that, hes smashed households with the biggest increases in costs over time, done absolutely nothing infrastructure wise, refused to sell any assets to reduce debt, been gifted a better GST return from the Feds and had some bonus Royalty returns, spent all his time in the limelight with sneakers opening Barnetts projects while moaning about them at the same time.

Meanwhile we have the worst performing economy in the country, lagging behind in every KPI, unemployment is stubborn, shrinking wages, property market is dead and has been for years.

Pretty average I reckon.

Ark as usual there are folk who long for the deficit economy and where someone manages the economy in a frugal and yes hard manner where some miss out, prices rise and there is accountability they are damned. They want the glitz and useless projects paid for in borrowings.

The point made by one numpty that the royalties has been favourable really misses the point. Wyatt set the return at $70 per tonne and has reaped a reward rather than it being set $100 per and the state debt rising uncontrollably, seems some cannot look pas the poltical bias and see the factual picture.

Grump: as an old leftie i would be doing deficit spending, in that sense i did not mind Barnett; keeping in miind always, that there were a myriad of reasons not to vote for the man -- 'mr wa day man''; some traditonal liberal voters, as you said, if they were true to their word, did not vote for barnett because he was not frugal enough; they should be rejoicing at the present governments' policies not bitching.

metronet
and re-building the midland workshops

are good ideas.

Mcgowan's two strengths are that he has:

stayed clear of greenism
as people have mentioned, the opposition is weak
