Some great memories there guys. I was at the ground to watch Fredericks innings. It was just amazing hitting. A 20/20 knock well before it was dreamt up. Poor old Colin Cowdrey having to come over from England to replace their maimed batsmen, then facing Lillee and Thommo on a Perth pitch. The pitch invasion that cost Terry Alderman a year of his career.
I was also at that Gillette Cup game in 1976 which was one of the most exciting sporting events I have ever attended. It had all the atmosphere of a football match and more. I remember watching the replay of the game later on TV and Bill Lawry was at his excitable best! Its all happening here at the WACA!

could be Jeff Thomson's style and delivery will go down as a once in a generation or maybe even once in a life time cricket player
I have no doubt he would have bowled even faster if that shocker of a collision with Alan Turner hadn't happened given the increasing fitness of players
Seriously fast bowler at his peak and in an era without helmets - not many if any at all will ever bowl as fast as Jeff Thomson not for 6 balls up around the 160kmh mark
and geez what a perfect foil for the lethal intellegence of Dennis Lillee

Not Test related but another fond memory from the WACA was during the 1986/87 season there was a One Day Tournament played between Australia, England, Pakistan & West Indies the America's Cup Challenge or similar?
Some great names played in that tournament for all countries (Border, Jones, Waugh, Botham, Gower, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Richards, Garner, Holding, Marshall etc) and there was exciting cricket and great matches played.
The lead up to and during the America's Cup certainly was an exciting time in Perth for sports lovers, there was a multitude of events on from Football, International Rules/Gaelic Rules, Racing, Cricket, Sailing obviously etc that had some massive purses up for grabs!

A WACA memory but not a test. It was WA v one of the touring WI teams, back in the days when the touring team would tune up against the various shield sides, I was there with my bro's, last session of the day and Viv Richards was batting but had i think a hammy niggle, so instead of retiring, he decided he didn't need to run but just stand and deliver and hit boundary after boundary, half of which were maximums what a treat that was.

I always liked sitting in the outer - im talking well before the Lillee Marsh stand was built when we had those sheds (roof with no walls) over large sections of the ground. Was hot in there during the day.

And if you want a test match highlight, what about when M Waugh hit Vittori onto the roof of the Lillee Marsh stand, and not test related, Chris Matthews hitting one between the stands into Glouster park - I think BJ may have also hit one that big in shield games in the 90's

Yes GTR and PH Chris Matthews did hit a 6 at the WACA for WA in a SS match circa late 1980s that went between the gap between the Prindiville Stand and the old Farley Stand I think it was called?
The cameraman followed the path of the ball in flight as it bounced on to Nelson Crs and finished up at the Gloucester Park gates across the road which is some hit.

The sling shot bowlers have have notc been accurate enough for test cricket--Thommo's average was close to 30; Malinga and Tait were not even fc standard. Are there anymore?

Gee you are a tough critic Ark..... Malinga had a FC bowling average of 30 and Tait's was 28......yeah Tait had a test bowling average of 60, but he only played 3 tests.....I didn't realize Malinga was so short - 173 cm.

Freezin: nah, just pointing out that the great bowlers have test averages in the low twenties, otherwise we will not win many tests.
