I thought that it was a positive declaration by Cummins. If he had allowed it to get to 380 - 400, the Pakistanis would have definitely shut up shop. So you have to risk losing in order to win I think and if Pakistan get over the line it will be a monumental victory for them. Having said that, I think the draw is still the most likely outcome but if the Aussies can get the ball to reverse early tomorrow, wickets could tumble quickly. First session tomorrow will set the pattern for the rest of the day.
The thing that worries me from an Australian point of view is the over reliance on Starc and Cummins to bowl the team out. I wonder what they would give to have a Hazlewood or Boland to back them up on the last day. Spinners from both sides have been pretty much ineffective in this series and I can't honestly see either Swepson or Lyon running through them tomorrow on what is still a pretty flat pitch. Ironical that the only real chance of a wicket in the 27 overs they bowled came from the last over by Labuscagne .
Should be an exciting day 5. Also kudos to Ussie for a wonderful series.

Totally agree mikeh....live and die by the sword.....definitely game on, encourage the Pakistan batsmen to play some shots, may result in generating a few more chances....IF we can catch them.....pretty sure if Patty had declared later, the Pakistan batsmen would just shut up shop.....especially with their long tail.....Aust need 5 wickets and the heat will be on the Pakistan  bowlers to save the game......if Pakistan first 5 get the runs  then so be it......highest run chase at that ground is 291 and the longest 4th innings there is 102 overs......records are always there to be broken though.....game on....

Nathan Lyon finally gets a five for to bowl Australia to a victory in Asia. A herculean effort by him, Cummins and Starc to wear the Pakistan batsmen down. Also don't underestimate the contribution of Cam Green who bowled tightly and got the crucial early breakthrough on day 5.  The Aussies got the rub of the green in a few DRS decisions or non decisions today but overall I think they were the better team and were good value for their 1-0 result.

Any win in the sub continent is a good win, never easy to do. Definitely  rub of the green with a few of those DRS mikeh.....but could say Aust was due a few from the previous test match.....swings in roundabouts I guess. Long over due that Lyon 5 for in a 4th innings, but eventually had to happen I guess....the law of averages and all that.

Great series by Uzzie with the bat, could of easily made a century in every innings TBH....Green keeps developing and just needs to get that 100, hopefully that will come soon, preferably batting at 5. Carey showed glimpses with the bat, still prefer Inglis, but his time will come hopefully.

Whatever folk think of Cummins as a person or a captain.....as a fast bowler he is a god send, works so hard, bowls quality lines and is a genuine wicket taker, along the lines of Lillee and McGrath.

interesting to read Hazlewood is heading home for a "break" before the IPL....the fella played the 1st test v Eng, injury related of course, then the first test v Pakistan.....how taxing is that to ones energy stores? Surely his leadership would be needed and he would want the bowling time  in a weaken Aussie ODI bowling attack?

Pakistan have a chance to get some revenge for the test series in the white ball format. The Aussie team must be one of the weakest ever that they have put out in this format with all of their front line pace bowlers either injured or rested, Mitch Marsh out with a hip injury sustained at training and now COVID seems to be spreading through the camp with Josh Inglis having tested positive. Could get a bit ugly on the field.

Great batting and bowling effort by the Aussie ODI boys, like you mikeh I was expecting a bit of white ball carnage pre series. Just goes to show, the test boys necessarily aren't automatic walk ups in the white ball format...especially the batsmen.....though Head did show his striking ability again.....

Still puzzled as to why Hazlewood went home for 'rest reasons'?...played 1 test v Eng and Pakistan......surely even with IPL commitments beckoning, a couple of 10 over spells would rid of any accumulated cobwebs

This was the carnage I expected in the first game but somehow the Pakistanis stuffed up a chase of 313 whereas 349 was a doddle last night!

Green and Carey couldn't finish off the good start by the top order boys, thus Aust was 20-30 light.....but TBH the way Abbott  bowled  perhaps Pakistan would of still reached the target....Ellis also bowled a pretty poor final over as well.....Behrendorf in for the decider me thinks, just to change things up....eg angle etc....hopefully  Inglis is free as well to play.
