Couldn’t agree more a dumb idea that will die a natural death very quickly.

Yep as silly an idea as the vfl in consultation with the Vic Govt only locking away the Grand Final at the MCG Melbourne for another 50 years and thus giving the clubs outside of their beloved Vic cocoon no look in or say in it whatsoever!!!

It is a silly idea but I believe it could be split over two games, one at each home venue. In the event each side wins a game it comes down to percentage. We always talk about how much a team needs to win by in the last game to scrape into the 4 or 8 and that is always exciting. You can't be any fairer than that.

In soccer when Australia is trying to qualify for the World cup or progress in group stages, where two countries finish on the same wins it comes down to goal difference (which I think is same as percentage. The only problem is the AFL GF is locked in to be played at the MCG until 2057 which is a disgrace.

How many NON Victorian clubs could arrange a Grand final with less than SEVEN full days to co-ordinate the Grand Final.
One couldn't pre sell tickets as the capacity of other grounds would be unknown. Imagine a Grand Final on GWS ground? It is a MULTI million dollar match. Accommodation & flights would be impossible to arrange...

Like the NFL that circulates the Superbowl years in advance the same could be done for the AFL GF if they were serious about growing the game outside of VIC!
FYI the AFL GF is only attended by 34,000 members of the actual 2 teams competing in it the rest of the tickets is sold off for corporates etc.
Why should Victorian clubs who finish lower on the ladder always have the benefit of playing at their home ground for no other reason than the vic govt and afl/vfl did a little deal between themselves with absolutely no consultation whatsoever with the clubs based outside of Victoria....so much for it being a national competition?!

The two prelim winners wouldnt be known until late friday or late saturday therefore tickets would have to be duplicated in case the top side lost. BLOODY IMPOSSIBLE to organise..

Isnt that the case already?
I am suggesting the Grand Final should be shared around a la the NFL Super Bowl where the venue is known long before the week before the GF.
As an example-
2019- MCG
2020- Perth Stadium
2021- Adelaide Oval
2022- Sydney Olympic Stadium or SCG
2023- Gabba
2024- MCG

I think the crux of the matter is being missed. With the best of 3, they could ensure that the VFL cup would hardly ever, if ever leave their pissant little state.

Blatant revenue raising opportunity by the AFL....a crap idea for mine…..
