Another decision that the WAFC will make is for the Reserves will play at around 9.00 am on Saturday followed by a women's match with the aim of alienating enough reserves' players who will leave their respective WAFL clubs and as a consequence make the reserves' competition not viable and the reserves' competition will be scrapped in 2020. I will add that the Swans Districts Football Club is complicit in that given what they have agreed to in terms of the fixturing of matches against Perth next week end.

Perhaps Fremantle are the WAFC baby, whether it was going to be Fremantle there was always going to be a second team out of Western Australia, just like there is a second team in Qld, NSW and SA. The AFL would have mandated that so I personally don't see the relevance of the WAFC in that equation. A second team in WA (just my view) is that it is an AFL baby with TV rights in mind and having a Derby clash to create great hype about.

Maybe the weagles really did drive it, it is now in their interest to have a second WA side in the comp and all the benefits that go with it.

Ooooll the WAFC Knocked back the origin proposal put forward by SFFC and EFFC for a team in the AFL based on their own clubs submissions as it was not in keeping with the model the WAFC wanted, make no mistake it's a baby of the WAFC, no idea what your on about re Eagles they opposed their entry strongly all along

Just as an aside in this discussion, I believe that East Perth wanted to join the VFL prior to 1987. Anyone remember the story this?

Sure, no point argiung about it as it is an opinion, I just don't believe that the WAFC alone decided whether weagles and Fremantle got a reserves side in the AFL. Plenty of other stakeholders were not supportive either, the cost factor (flights, accommodation for players/staff) would have been huge and the AFL and other clubs would not have worn that. After that the weagles and Fremantle got their next best option.

Yep I seem to recall was when Brown was coaching and we played essendon in a pre season game

1982 & I recall it was Grant Dorrington who was coach of EP at the time , and the VFL was approached directly by EP which incensed the WANFL at the time to the point where EP were threatened with expulsion from the league if any further approaches to the Viccos were made
Fred Book was one official involved I believe
