Didn't know North Melbourne were playing in 1896
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

It really would be nice to be able to have some intelligent conversation here with out moronic comments.
Pity some people couldn't grow up.

Haha yeah those two posts couldn't be further off topic if they tried, back on topic it amazes me that those cllubs had good membership bases and crowds and yet they were in so much financial trouble goes to show how inept their administration was, that 8million that WC and Brisbane contributed saved alot of clubs and possibly the VFL itself.

Makes you wonder if it would have been better for the other states to let the VFL completely fall over, then build the AFL from the ground up. You might have then got a truly National league rather than one which seems to have Victoria as the centre of the universe.

Bit harsh. All I had time for before junior footy this morning. I think it was a mess how we went about the national comp and have being saying it for years. Will read the article later.

Bill Walker in a recent interview on 91.3 explains how WA went in too early instead of waiting so things could be on our terms. Should have let them sink

I like how it states at the top of the online article "How Aussie rules almost died" so Vic Centric and not a mention of the WAFL in the article.

The article had a really stupid heading IMO!
Why did the article have no mention of the Wafl, Sanfl or Tasssie state league? Which were once good popular competitions! Surely not a journalist trying to sensationalise something and sucker everyone in?!
