Football had been played on Anzac Day long before 1995.

I might be the only one here but I'm happy for it to remain as Collingwood vs Essendon and when scheduling permits there will be Fremantle vs whoever during the night and Melbourne vs Richmond on ANZAC Day Eve.

Obviously like last season when ANZAC Day falls on a weekend there will be more than one game on but I am for it staying the same as it is.

People saying it should be Geelong and Hawthorn, that game has becoming the Easter Monday game.

If it does change and I hope it doesn't PN's idea of the previous two grandfinalist's would seem to be a fitting replacement.

Why not leave Coll v Ess in Melbourne...and then hold a match at the SCG Syd v GWS, and one in Brisbane between the 2 Queensland sides which might actually drag in sell out crowds in them 2 states for once...perth and Adelaide already can fill stadiums so Anzac days aren't absolutely necessary and will give our state leagues a chance to showcase matches on the day.

Blasphemy mike? Don't think so, just common sense that the AFL seem to lack. GFC v HFC, what a great game that could have been.
They argue that these 2 pathetic teams own the day and that one K Sheedy is honoured by it. Well Alexander Bell invented the phone, so following the AFL logic, he should be the only one with one.

58s I believe there may be some doubt as to whether A Bell did in fact invent the telephone.

FFS swan, let's not get pedantic. Do you get my point? Just because the druggies & wobblers played the first one, that doesn't give them the right from here forward.

The fixture really was only built on the fact that when it became an "EVENT" by way of Sheedy both teams had a degree of dominance in the comp, if both mobs are struggling it becomes a bit lame, but has grown its own legs as an "EVENT" people go regardless, how much longer that will happen with a couple of battlers not sure.

Queens Birthday game has been a dud for years but seems to get a few.

Now that the Pies are cock a hoop they will want to thrash Melbourne on Queen's birthday match. They mightn't.
