Being tested for ilicit drugs while on recreational break during the off season is completely opposite to taking performance enhancing drugs, the AFL have a three strike policy ASADA will only step in if they test positive on game day.

Being that these are hair sample tests and not blood tests who is to say that they the positive results don't stem back to in season use. Either way not a good look for the culture at Collingwood....hope the afl are going to investigate the criminal links to our sport and interrogate these young men as to where they have sourced these illegal drugs they have put in to their bodies. If they are fair dinkum these links need to be investigated. Most likely we have a drug dealer(s) within our ranks if 11 players have indeed tested positive at one club. And PN is right WADA's war on drugs does not extend to recreational drug use outside of game day which is a pretty ordinary mandate IMO if they are dead set on maintaining the integrity of all sport as they continue to preach to govts around the world that they request funding from.

DW WADA mandate is to stop cheating in sport not how high you can get on game day, during the week or the break after the season.

But I reckon it would be hypocritical for the AFL to let this slide considering what they put WC and Ben Cousins through with out a positive tes.

My only issue with recreational drug use with regards to sport is that amphetamine like substances can be used to assist in cutting weight and also in the gym. Most will not be performance enhancing, the opposite in most cases however there are ways some illegal substances can be used to enhance performance, both in the gym and on the running track outside of game day. Needs to be looked at

Really interesting rant on Twiiter by Peter Fitzimmons insinuating that Gil Mac is a Coke freak and should be subjected to the same testing as the players

At the moment it is easy to take pot shots at Collingwood, but let us wait and see if our clubs are involved.
I heard from another source that there are 14 clubs with players who told the AFL that they had taken illicit drugs.A whole heap were apparently at the same music festival and took drugs.
I just hope that one of the clubs isn't the Dockers, though it wouldn't surprise me.
The thing here is as well, how did this supposed private information get out to the press. There must be a mole in the AFL who is leaking this information to the press.
There will be hell to pay I think because the AFLPA went along with the AFL to allow the players to be tested off season.I think it had something to do with an increae pay level for the players.
There will be no strikes against these players because it is out of season testing.
With the hair test now being the means of drug testing, expect a lot of players who maybe on drugs to be running around with no hair. One very prominent player played with short hair for a purpose.

A/man whilst I suspect that you may be correct about the AFLPA's response; if they do then they are very derelict in their duty if they don't follow this up with the greatest concern. The greatest concern should be the potential health consequences of taking illicit drugs.

No doubt it will be another AFL manufactured result, if it wasn't for WADA the 34 drug cheats would of got off.
