Essendon looked good, like they have got something to prove. And North just didnt look like a team that should be vying for finals this year.

I think it does AM. If the team you control doesnt show improvement (unless the team is ravaged by injury) then surely it comes time to give some fresh ideas and faces a go.

@Bazza - yea Melbourne should have won. Me and the gf were watching the game before we went out to dinner and I think the score was something like melb 2.10 - 20 to saints 3.4 - 22. Only 2 points difference but I said to her that Melbourne will lose because historically even if a team is dominating the play like melbourne were, when you keep kicking points instead of goals you will lose. I know in recent years both Carlton and WCE have done the same. Dominate the play but have been so inaccurate in front of goal that they lose.

I tip my hat to you Yolo. A gf who not only allows you time to watch the footy but sits down and enjoys it with you. A rare find :)

North were just terrible. Was very frustrating to watch, signs of a team who believed their own pre-season hype. But it is only round 1. Im prepared to give it a little more time.

I need to see more of the Eagles but there is no doubt the changes they have made are working. Injuries killed them last year so having boys on the park will help them.

The Bulldogs were disappointing, but why on earth do the AFL persist with early games in Perth during the March daylight heat. Subi has lights?? Never much logic by the AFL its the same things every year.

Saints & Demons still look like bottom barrel sides.

All in all this split round one thing is a real fizzer. Its been 2 weeks of general flatness, instead of what footy should be, a tantalizing wait for everyone and then an explosion of footy. Big fail.

@DW - she certainly is:) She enjoys footy, not quite as much as I do but she even watches footy by herself if it is a good game!

May be an advantage for West Coast playing the early games in Perth as the boys would be training in the same conditions daily. Also don't see how it is not logic by the AFL? Care to explain what is wrong with the time frames Jardine?

Harvey looks like he is one of their most dangerous players and the most hard working. I think it is unfair to put him in the spotlight just because of his age (if that was why you mentioned him).

I think their is a lot of players that need an example made of them before Harvey....starting with Daniel Wells, one of the laziest and one way players I have ever seen.

Harvey shouldn't be in the firing line, he has runs on the board and is still a serious contributor. It may be a coach thing, I simply don't know. But history tells us we should wait until much later to hang people. The Mark Thompson story at Geelong is testament to that.

in regard to start times Soprano, I guess im referring to the heat. Perth is so very hot in March. If the AFl are going to start the season this early, wouldn't it be better to play at night here in Perth?

I noticed the SANFL don't start their season until April. This is what I call common sense. And they start with 2 Friday night games & a Saturday night game. I think the South Aussies have more foresight than the AFL & WAFC put together
