I like it Tiger
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

It is actually not a bad idea TOO....but one problem is it wont wash with the VIC/Prics as it takes away their massive vfl home ground advantages, their states massive financial windfall from an mcg GF every year, ditto the brownlow wankfest etc etc so it wont pass the Vic/afl pub test as it misses out on 12 months of these advantage benefits!

Let’s get playing as soon as it’s safe, but I don’t believe we should present the GF cup in the WAFL or AFL. Too much of the season is lost and clubs generally play a game of chess leading up to that day in September. Awarding the flag will just be playing Russian roulette.
Subi will just have to wait a year.

With WA and SA having the lowest infection rate of all the AFL states, the sensible thing to restart the competition would be to have one 'hub' in Adelaide and the other in Perth with two local teams, 5 Victorian clubs and one each from NSW and QLD.

In WA each interstate club could be allocated training facilities at one of the WAFL grounds. Each team in the hub would play each other once. You could have Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday games and possibly midweek as well. You could use OPTUS, the WACA, Lathlain, Cockburn and Claremont to play games. It doesn't matter where they play, there will be no crowd, as long as the playing surface and change rooms are clean and up to scratch. Same situation in Adelaide. I reckon they could get through a set of games in around 6 weeks, so if they start in June they would be finished the block by the end of July. Would mean teams playing more than once a week sometimes but everyone would be in the same boat and you can also reduce the length of quarters somewhat to minimise fatigue. The time difference between Perth and Adelaide would mean that you could stagger games to suit the TV schedules as well, for example on Friday night the Adelaide game could start at say 6pm Adelaide time ( 4.30 in Perth), then you could switch straight to a game from Optus at 7pm Perth time once the Adelaide game is over ( sort of like what they do in the big bash cricket)

Once the first block of matches is over, the WA and SA teams should be able to relocate to the Eastern seaboard in August to play their share of away games.

Thoughts? very unlikely I know given the objections that the VFL clubs would put up.

Not a bad idea at all Mike especially considering the Covid-19 cesspit VIC is....but there will be at least one objection....Danger will cry if he is away from his mummy for too long...remember he squealed like a stuffed pig when hubs were thrown up to be based in WA, SA, NT, QLD etc but had a change of heart when there was talk of a VIC hub!

Yep the AFL has been exposed during the pandemic for what they have always been. A glorified VFL.

We all go on about how Victorian centric the AFL is, which it is, but it’s actually their obsession with Queensland and NSW over the past decade which has really stuffed them and left them no money in the bank for this bloody rainy day

Of course it is and always has been just the VFL with extras Mike.
Thanks to those VIC wankers who were working at the WAFL back in the mid 80s when the WCE were established they rushed into joining the VFL instead of holding on for a few more years and letting those bankrupt VFL teams go the wall like Fitzroy, Footscray, St Kilda, Melbourne, North Melbourne etc and then starting a proper National comp from scratch with the big 6 teams left out of VIC, 2 from WA & SA, and 1 each from QLD, NSW,TAS & ACT or NT.
The WAFL, SANFL, VFA/VFL, TFL, QFL, NSWFL, ACTFL & NTFL would have housed the various leftover players across the clubs in their particular League.
But good ol JW and co at WAFL HQ couldnt let their beloved VFL teams go belly up although Fitzroy eventually did and so we had the rush job of WCE entering a VFL comp (with Bris) and having to pay $4 mill up front instead of waiting & watching those shit VIC teams who are still propped up to this day 34 years later by the afl/vfl who should have just been forced to play in a VIC state based comp eg the VFA/VFL!
Many, many WA/SA/TAS State League clubs had more right to be a part of a national league than the likes of perennial strugglers on and off the park like St Kilda, Footscray, Fitzroy, NM, Melb etc!
