Was that the stadium the AFL paid hundreds of millions of dollars for in 2017 but could have got for zilch in 2025 under the initial agreement JS?
Time will tell if that was the right decision or not I guess!

I guess the right to take ownership in 2025 is also an intangible asset, so may be of limited use in today's circumstances.

As you say, time will tell.

What a brilliant summation by Duff. Now with the virus and footy on hold and the faint possibility it will re-start late spring, they wont be able to use the G for the Gf and most probably any other finals, so obviously, (to anyone outside of the AFL/VFL bubble) the GF venue, like other finals goes to the highest ranked team.

Bang on mate - the Vicco league bought it with some plan to redevelop the surrounding precinct
It's estimated value is now way less given what the banks gave as a loan and that redevelopment is not going to happen now
if they've had to borrow so much coin it tells us just how much they've wasted somewhere logically >>> 600 Mil of it

And yet another perspective.

Inside the Docklands Stadium deal that saved the AFL from coronavirus financial oblivion

This week the AFL went cap in hand to its bankers asking for $600 million, its prized jewel a $1 billion piece of collateral now known as Marvel Stadium.

As the NRL goes to war over its crumbling financial picture the AFL is safe in the knowledge that at the very worst it could sell its stadium.

The key to the asset underpinning the AFL’s prosperity was a canny deal that saw the league sell its Waverley Park headquarters and move 37 games a year to the new Docklands arena.

The massive caveat was that the AFL would inherit the freehold rights to the stadium in 2025 for just $30.

In 2016 the league bought the stadium nine years early, for $200 million, but as former AFL chief executive Wayne Jackson says, the deal was a watershed moment for the AFL........

An interesting article and bang on the money for mine...in essence despite all the doom and gloom coming from afl/vfl house about the game being in trouble due to this pandemic the actual game of football will continue on as always it will just be the afl themselves who have to have a long hard look in the mirror and make changes to their own league!
