1. East Perth are back (no longer aligned with the Eagles). There traditional supporters will come back in droves draped in dreary black and blue.
2. No more bloody byes.
3. I actually believe the Eagles having a stand alone team will provide a bit of interest though are they actually going to have any support at games?
4. Subiaco could begin to come back to the pack for a number of reasons including the end of the money stream that made them the dominant force in the WAFL, new rookie coach, potential player losses.
5. Fascinating turn of events in the coaching ranks that has seen former WP coach Bill Monaghan take the reigns at EF while EF applicant take the WP job.
6. Can things finally fall into place for Perth in 2019 and see us end a long and painful drought and play finals?

point 2.their unfortunately will still be byes.Yes we will have a ten team competition but like last year we will have a 18 round competition which will start later and like south Australia we will have certain rounds with only 4 games and two teams having a bye so that they can stretch out the wafl to overlap the afl finals .What will be different is that all teams will only play each other twice which will be fairer.

Yep true Chaddy and maybe a state game in there somewhere but as you say much fairer fixturing with everyone playing each other twice (home and away). There has been some ridiculous fixturing the last 5 years or so since the alignments. Last year Perth played Swans twice at Bassendean Oval in the space of 4 weeks.

DD some observations regarding your observations.

Point 2 - C22 has indicated that byes will still exist.
Point 3 - depending upon which other competition is going to be raped and pillaged to fill up their reserves team, do you really think that it will attract interest from WAFL supporters who have no idea who these players are? Also, there has been a suggestion that some of the games will be curtain raisers; so the vast majority of WAFL supporters will not be able to attend.
Point 4 - you are aware that Subiaco won all three grades this season and did not lose a game in the league?
Point 5 - tenuous at best.

Who knows the Eagles almost full the Optus Stadium every week.Maby some of there hard-core fans and just families might like the Wafl environment. Would be great if 1500 of the fans turned up to each Wafl match.

Yes and no.The eagles have been going thirty one years so you do have eome eagles supporters who have no alliance with any wafl clubs and I gather will go to some eagle wafl games.Another interesting question is that we have a lot of people who are not dockers or eagles supporters.Do they come to wafl games as they wouldn't be going evey second week to optus.

Exactly how many times can the "this will increase attendances" furphy be used? We can go back to the impact which was grossly underestimated of the introduction of the Eagles. Where was the increase in attendances at the host club alignment matches? There is no logical reason to believe that there will be an increase in attendances?

Can't say I can take this topic all that seriously.
Defeatist negative thoughts.
The life of the WAFL is in the hands of the Clubs.
If the Clubs want to play football they will play regardless of what happens to the WAFC.
It may not be in the form that they want but life has already changed dramatically.
The changes of the last 30 years are not the first changes the competition has seen and probably will not be the last.
The competition has survived and is far from dead.

I appreciate your positive spin on the future of the WAFL. If Gavin Taylor is looking for a promoter I'm sure you'll be getting your application in.

And you know what I am referring to when I say "no more bloody byes".

Agree Demons Forever. The clubs will adapt, the competition will survive and life will go on.

Swan42 - the Doyen of Disaster - just wants it to be the early 80s so Swans are at their best again and winning flags. Clearly their lean run since then with 2 league premierships (including the drug tainted 2010 flag) has been directly caused by the introduction of the two WA AFL teams!

As I said in other post, I am surprised that people talk about welcoming EP back as if nothing happened. They should be eternal pariahs. Agree not having byes and more even fixtures is a plus. Eagles reserves unlikely to attract any more interest than alignment. Subi have enough money to keep on their merry way for years to come. I hope they don't lose players because if they do the other WAFL clubs will have to wait until Subi finish their recruiting and then pick up the crumbs. WP are likely to drop off, provided they pay their debts and taxes ahead of players. Still, if EP can be aligned twice, why can't WP go bankrupt and get bailed out twice? I hope EF can make a move, but realistically it will take at least 3 years. And Perth? I can only hope, but we need minimum 3-5 top class players to play finals.
