I believe the then VFL shafted Fitzroy when they forced them away from the Junction Oval at the end of 1984 ("ground rationalisation" was the supposed reason).
From Victoria Park (1985-86) to Princes Park (1987-93) to the Western Oval (1994-96) to oblivion (1997-).

Dean Turner had a few seasons with Fitzroy before joining the original Eagles team 1987.Think DT was at the loins 86+85.Played well in his time there.Very good in the 86 finals.

AD: I agree 100 per cent that they treated Fitzroy badly over its lack of money; one needs to think about the fact that, leaving aside Fitzroy's problems, after they were forced out, nearly every club outside of WA has received a subsidy from the AFL sods.

Two others to play for Fitzroy were:
Mark Zanotti
Gary Sidebottom

On the best coaches, even though Clarkson's record is a good one, I would suggrest that we enterred a new era when the silly Amercanised draft was introduced. Coaches actually get good players when they finish last, which of course, is why Clarkson ended up with Hodge, Franklin and Roughhead.

If he can get this second generation side to the top then his greatness will be confrmmed for all time.

Dean Turner played 54 games for Fitzroy between 1984 and 1986, gtrxuone.
And, yes, he did have a good 1986 finals series.
I believe that David Parkin instructed his players to whack their opponent if Robert Dipierdomenico hit another Royboy in the 86 prelim final.
I think Turner was marking Johnny Platten - suffice to say, having joined the newly formed West Coast in 1987, Dean didn't play his first Eagles game until Round 4.
There are certainly plenty of Swan Districts players who've appeared for Fitzroy, though I'm not sure of the exact number.
Re East Perth, my research indicates that 22 blokes have played senior games for both the Royals and Roys.

Ian McCulloch, John Ironmonger, Dean Turner and David Bain would be couple who went over and Kevin O'Keefe and Kevin Murray came the other way off the top of my head. Ian Thomson played at Soth Melbourne although he may have also played a few at Fitzroy also.

Archie do you remember Micky Conlen goal of the year v Stkilda.Had a sprint and bounce the ball a few times and ran into a nest of Skkilda defenders.Jumper punched a couple of defenders and snapped a goal over his head.

Glen Robertson, Wayne Duke, Neville Taylor, Brett Stephens, Marcus Seecamp, Ian Millar, Craig McGrath are some others that played at both EP & Fitzroy aside from Alexander, McCulloch, Ironmonger, Turner, Bain, O’Keefe & Murray.
