Take it or leave it guys but I have it on pretty good authority that the WAFC are working with the AFL to sell the AFL licenses and that we will be known as AFL WA by as soon as start of next footy season. All things football will be run by the AFL.

He also informed me the WAFL is not a priority for anyone at the WAFC and faces a very dim future as it currently is. Almost certainly to end up an under 23's comp in time.

I am not going to tell you this guys name but I can tell you he is very involved in the WAFC.

Like I said take it or leave it, as a passionate WAFL supporter I just wanted to inform you what I have been told. But it seems everything he said seems to be pointing in those directions.

Reckon I've had exactly the same conversation with the same unnamed person heavily involved with the WAFC....don't doubt ur information for a second GWS....the irony is these blokes are all selling off their own jobs to the AFL...can only imagine the size of their redundancy packages once the deeds get signed....WAFC should be read as " We Are Fukn Chronies " ....thing is they think they are brokering the best deal for WA footy for the future when reality is they are removing the foundations from underneath their and therefore WA Footy's own feet....F@#KWITS

I can understand the reasoning behind calling it AFL WA, trying to get younger people involved etc... bit I will always call it the WAFL though. Selling the licenses would be a massive mistake IMO. These licenses generated a fair bit of income don't they?

I still believe the WAFL brand is still recongnised nationally, and therefore marketable. Its simply not marketed or promoted the way it could be.

Why not get the AFL's marketing to do a new logo that is inline with the AFL's, after all the letters AFL are within WAFL.

I'm staring to believe if the AFL take over and the WAFC finished, it could be for the better.
  • TV coverage could be organised on a mass cross league contract, possibly broadcast on Foxtel.
  • Better media control - wider coverage - ie shared content between wafl.com.au and afl.com.au
  • Possibly more inclined to have an AFL style WAFL logo included on merchandise.
  • Possible larger salary cap like the other leagues - more marque players.
I'm not sure the AFL are hell bent in killing of the WAFL, rather hell bent on controlling football.

Mike respectfully I don't think you could be further from what would happen. I personally will walk away when Swans die and the taking over of the WAFL by the AFL would be a deeath sentence to the WAFL and the WAFL clubs as we know it. Does anyone think that the VFL in its current format is anything like its former selfof the VFA? The under 18s AFL competition is nothing more than a glorified training competition.

We sell the licences back to the AFL it will be the death of the WAFL.

RIP WAFL.

I believe now that WAFC need's to sell the two AFL licenses, and invest the money back into the WAFL. Be it half goes into a term deposit and the rest in the much needed area's of the WAFL . Even If, and it's a big IF the WAFC get the administration rights to the new stadium there still going to be a very big short fall to their budget. I did read Mr Howard Dawson and Mr Paul Douglas proposal that was presented to WAFC. After reading it carefully I agree to 90% of the proposal. I am a die hard WAFL man but I can see if something isn't done in the next three to four years there will not be the WAFL as we know it.

This has been coming for ages, and to be honest makes marketing and real life sense.

The WAFL was finished a long time ago, the current ghost set up is a vasal of the AFL, totally raliant financially on it for existance.

Generational change means 99% of the popu;ation under 40 have no or very little interest in WAFL., heck people even call actual Aussie Rules AFL now.

As there will not a Foxtel cup any more. all we need now is to bring it back to a eight WAFL Club comp and a true home and away fixtures. This will help comp in a big way.

I have been saying this for ages, and its now encouraging to see so many on here now also calling for the sale of the two AFL licences back to the AFL, this should now be an aboslutle priority, for a number of reasons, but mainly as I firmly believe there values have probably just about peaked at the moment, with declining attendances and ratings all over the AFL, debt mounting at the WAFC, more and more AFL clubs in financial problems, in future years neither these frnachises are going to be worth as much.

On curent values they should yield $40 Million for the WAFL, invest the money in a capital fund, that ensures the financial future of the comp, then go on a radical restructure to ensure its long term viability totally free of the AFL.
