But maybe not from what I have read here.

Of course the competition continues ..not that that would ever worry those who never attend the WAFL!!

Let wait and see what happens before shooting the goose that lays the golden egg.
If the WAFL was short on members, short on attendances, short on finances, and lets face it, it has been happening for a bloody long time,What do you or other suggest should have happened to make the competition viable!!!
What changes would you have made that the WAFL presidents didn't look at?

I think you summed up the WAFC in one word here anchor.....goose, but it won't be laying any 'golden egg'. Might be alright for the 2 slimeballs, but the WAFL clubs will suffer.

Question??? If an AFL clubs list is 44? And all are fit where do the local boys play? Im glad im not a young aspiring EP or PEEL colts player. oh well at least i will be able to reach the pinnacle of my career playing reserves footy and then off to the bush. Plenty of noise about the strength of the comp....what about the integrity? And opportunity for kids to get as far as they can.

Had to go to WAFL website to actually see who the sponsors are. Just shows the lack of promotion they have to even know who sponsors the comp.

Agree totally . No promotion that grabs any attention. And all the newspaper coverage seems to focus on what the AFL players did in the game even if it was insignificant.

i feel now that in 5 years time the 3 big state leagues (vfl, wafl, sanfl)to survive or at least function on a more genuine professional level, must form a second tier "division two" type football format. the AFL are slowly eating away like termites at domestic football by firstly trying to control the licences of the eagles and dockers. which in turn gives them WA footall. there is something happening in that area and if it happens then maybe the AFL themselves could back something like that.

foxtel have now dipped a toe in the water as we all know. things like this start small and develop as they go. the longer i have lived the more a learn you can never dismiss even the most obsurd idea. i remember laughing when they started selling bottled water in the shops. we get it free from our taps, whos going to pay for it?. suddenly we are all brainwashed into thinking that tap water is poison. well it kept me alive for a while.

What has the WAFC done in the last let's say 5 years to promote the comp? and I mean really done. SFA in the form of advertising our comp whether that be media or paper. Who's the comps major sponsor? I missed one game last season and I cant recall who it is...is there one?

Anchorman, you ask us supporters and presidents what we should have done to improve the comp. Why not ask the WAFC who are paid to run the bloody comp. It wouldn't surprise me they start advertising EP & Peel in 2014 with all the states AFL players at one club.

One thing, for the crap Howson has been served up on this and other sites his was the only advertising on a friday nite supporting the WAFL

Have to say Jardine that I have thought about this also.
Why don't the SANFL and the WAFL join forces and start up a champions league?
No more WAFL premiership or SANFL premiership just 18 teams in one comp.
I ams ure it could get coverage by FTA tv and would be better supported than the Current system.
In time over many years it could possibly grow into something pretty good and will become a great breeding ground for the next batch of AFL players.
Anything is possible of course but if they continue down this current path, the WAFL and SANFL will eventually be run by the AFL and the history and tradition of both comps will be placed into the history books forever.

anchorman wrote: The WAFC is there to oversee the running of the WAFL and football in general. It is not there to run it.
When consensus or agreement can't be reached the WAFC steps in.
There was no progress being made by the G7 and the two AFL clubs so the WAFC had to sort it out.Like it or not the decision has been made.

You are correct Anchorman and people need to understand this.
The only issue is that they WAFC really only have the two AFL clubs interests at heart and do little to promote and protect the 130 year old competition which is the WAFL.

Things change and we must move with change, not all change is for the good and this change is only in the interests of the Eagles and Dockers. It is of zero Benefit to the WAFL.

It is funny because East Perth have aligned with the Eagles so now they are best mates, yet I have not heard a word from East Perth about not being happy about the Eagles playing on Foundation day. Nor for that matter any WAFL club. The G7 should have put that in their demands that Foundation day is untouchable by the Eagles and Dockers for 25 years.

I am not worried so much about whether the two sides will dominate, I do know any success either side has in the WAFL will not be recognised in any way shape or form. That is sad for East Perth and Peel.

One question I do want to know and this is open to everyone, if Peel and East Perth miss the finals and the Eagles and Dockers make the finals do the other 7 WAFL clubs have to make room for the AFL clubs players so they can keep playing?

I am sure the G7 clubs would like a fair and equitable competition, however WC and Fremantle, their 2 WAFL clubs and the WAFL/WAFC didnt allow this by not ensuring that all rules and regulations regarding the 2 teams were put in place before any recruiting and list managment decisions were able to take place.
EP and Peel have already been given an advantage.
