The PR station is a bit of a joke! Someone was saying a meeting is planned by the remaining 7 clubs tomorrow to discuss the boycott idea? I myself am hoping the boycott comes to fruition. But don't tell anyone on PR I said that. They certainly would not like to hear it!

Smart faces ban over scoreboard shenanigans

Veteran football manager Phil Smart faces a suspension and two Swan Districts board members could be sanctioned over the scoreboard prank at Steel Blue Oval last month.

And in a dramatic escalation of the tensions in the WAFL over the alignments with the two local AFL clubs, West Perth president Brett Raponi has also been asked to explain an inflammatory tweet over today's WA Day derby against East Perth.

Using Twitter to promote the WAFL's official rivalry round, Raponi used the hashtag #defunctroyals to refer to West Perth's traditional rivals.

Smart is set to discover tomorrow the extent of a WA Football Commission penalty after Swans briefly used a West Coast nameplate instead of East Perth for their match in round nine.

The nameplate was removed after a few minutes following a complaint from East Perth president Bronte Howson.

The Royals made it clear that they did not want to pursue the matter.

WAFC chief executive Gary Walton asked Swans boss Tom Bottrell for an explanation and competitions director Grant Dorrington counselled Swans president David Parkinson over the affair.

The commission is understood to be under significant pressure from West Coast to take further action.

Under WAFL rules, a first offence of behaviour detrimental to football is liable to a fine of not less than $500.

The commission investigation found that Swans planned a series of protests during their game against East Perth, including using the West Coast theme song when the Royals players ran on to the field and offering half-price entry to any Eagles members.

The WAFC marketing department may consider the latter idea for next year when full AFL partnerships are introduced to the WAFL.

Smart's lengthy career includes stints as a premiership football manager at Claremont and the head of Fremantle's recruiting department.

Raponi became the subject of an East Perth complaint over his tweet last Thursday when he urged supporters to attend the match at Medibank Stadium today.

Raponi suggested it would be the second-last meeting between the arch rivals as traditional foes.

"Come along & see Falcons dismantle @EastPerthFC for just the 2nd last time in #wafl #defunctroyals," he said.
Raponi's tweet follows his revelation last week that West Perth would attempt to recruit East Perth forward Josh Smith when the AFL partnerships took effect next year.

My thoughts exactly George. Ye old football commission will not like your comments however.
I find this line interesting whereby royals wish to not pursue the matter.
But then the article says the commission is understood to be under significant pressure from big brother to take further action.
Considering this still is supposed? to be the wafl? why is big brother involving itself with placing pressure on the so called footy commission when they should just bloody clear off!!?
Obviously the wafl fans are not being listened to and said commission is sadly lacking.

East Perth are a disgrace. The people running the wafl are in the eagles pocket.

What the hell is happening to the world? Everyone has lost their good old Aussie sense of humour. WAFC - you are a bunch of stale old fuddy duddies that need to be sent off to retirement and a bunch of younger, fresher faces left to run the league. If Swans cop a fine, I hope that they set up a fund for we, the WAFL public donate to pay it. Sure, it's only $500, but it's the principle - stuff the WAFC regime.

Muppet why are EP disgrace, all we did is ask for the sign to be removed. We did not treat Swans with any disrespect, we have not pursued the issue, that would be a WAFL or WAFC issue, we did not ask your co jim henson muppet to coment on twitter he did that by himself,

You need to get your facts right before you label anyone a disgrace. Oh and George why is ok to discuss the sign now and not before!

Simple really the WAFL/WAFC realise there decisions are wrong and they cant handle the truth.. There only interest is appeasing the AFL clubs and stuff the WAFL or what it thinks.. Gee its going to be fun next year.
They are so thin skinned as soon as people bring it to media or public attention they crawl under a rock and start using regulations in a Book that now is not worth the paper it is written on.. We only have to look at the Points system/Salary caps etc etc etc..
What a mess... but they will rewrite the WAFL constitution and rules to suit themselve and any problems they have with those two clubs will be to make the rules exempt for them.... Yeh sure we live in a great democracy but this is far from it.

Yep, agree. The WAFC is governing like a tin-pot dictatorship that intimidates any individual who has a different viewpoint.
