I think you are onlto something - Hardie reckons it is tied into the new Media deal, as you say Kayo have pulled up a long way short, really not much change for them.

I think the ALF teams will increase their lists to 60 or similar. I can't see the AFL paying for top up reserves players to fly around the country. Then again, they pay for the women to do likewise so who knows. If it's a true reserves competition then an AFL club will have to present 2 teams each week otherwise it's just a hybrid arrangement.

It could be an Olive Branch from the AFL to Fox and Kayo Baz.Like Bc said they fly around the Aflw so they will the ressies.

This will help avoid a repeat of what happened on Sunday -- the VFL(VFA) clubs dislike alignment provisions as well. It goes without saying, of course, that none of this complies with the agreement penned back in 1987-- they will certainly want to pay less.

I guess the other thing to take into account is that all of this is based on a Brad Hardie rumour. I'm not suggesting he's wrong but I don't recall him winning a Pulitzer Prize for excellence in journalism either. It would be an extremely expensive exercise for the clubs and AFL to have a standalone reserves comp.

BC a number of AFL clubs have been pushing a reserves  comp for a number of years.
From what I've heard it's Melbourne based clubs and West Coast..Wce don't want to play in the Wafl and we don't want them in the Wafl,perfect.

If the eagles and dorks were winning games in the afl seconds, then I’m sure they’ll get support.  It’s a brilliant concept to get rid of them, but the WAFL would take a big hit player wise initially.  I’m sure they could rebuild over 2 or 3 years.  Anyway, to me Brad Hardey is just a wannabe big news breaker, so let’s see.

Been floating around for a few years now. The idea of the reserves league was first suggested by the AFL at the club presidents/CEOs gathering in Melbourne March 2018. Hopefully it is gathering steam.
