Obviously very tough to grade but IMO I think all clubs that only have 1 team should be in E1. They should all be striving to get 2 teams and therefore the next step would be C4. If they can't be competitive against fellow 1 team clubs then they generally won't be competitive against an A or B grades 3rds.
That would leave e1 looking like this
Bayswater
Beechboro
Safety Bay
Coobelup
Swan Districts
Rossmoyne
Forrestdale
The remaining 3 spots then be to the highest ranked teams. If this is the case then at least we can have proper promotion relegation style format.
I'm also perplexed as to what will happen if TA's or Wembley win C4. Will they be promoted to C3? I know it's to make up the 10 team comp but I don't think that is right.

Kermit and Mad Dog I agree that this year the grades are confusing but I disagree with your rationale. Why should a club with only one team get belted every week just because you think they should be in E1. I also don't believe that the performance of the clubs senior team should have anything to do with their 3rds/5ths grading.

For the last couple of seasons the E grades have effectively been sliced with the top 3-4 from the three grades forming E1, the next 3-4 forming E2, and the cellar dwellers forming E3. I think this was particularly beneficial to the clubs who didn't win many, as they all got to play each other the next year, and 5 get a crack at the finals. I think this was the best scenario with only 3 E grades.

Obviously 3rds/5ths sides can change dramatically form season to season but now that there are 4 E grades there is an opportunity to use promotion/relegation for next year, if the structure doesn't change again, or slice them again.

have no idea how we ended up in E2 this year, but more concerned that we only were able to field one team this year. we'll play whoever they give us and use this year to build back to 2 teams.

I think Kermit's thinking was not because they were 1 team but where they finished last year compared to new teams, 3rds dropping down etc.

The E grade hasn't been put together too well and will take a couple years with the 2 up, 2 down system to sort itself out.

They have not put any rationale in to it looking from outside in.

This is where having access to the WAAFL in this type of forum would be good so you understand their thinking.

I'm sure Kermit is appreciative of your support, but in his first post he stated.

What E1 should look like going by promotion/relegation system and ***respective top teams grading.*** ***Single team clubs should be in the higher single team comps***

I tend to agree with that comment too. I think you'll find that will happen gradually over the next couple years with 2 up 2 down.

You'd expect most single team clubs to be stronger than 3rd's 4th's or 5th's but also there are times when that isn't the case.

Was really looking forward to fixtures being released this year, but am now not looking forward to season ahead. How can the league believe these fixtures are right??

We were looking forward to a decent year, hopefully in E3, but some how end up in E1. Teams that belted us last year are now below us in grades, and then we also have to play other teams that are going to hand us a pumping every time we play.

Anyone else worried about the season ahead?? Does anyone know how the league came up with these fixtures ??

I have to agree with you Mad Dog in that single team clubs be assigned to the highest grade in the single team comp. It would be better if they had a separate comp for single teams in the WAAFL but that’s another story. Highest ranking or A/B3rd teams would be ideal to fill in the remaining spots in E1 as you suggest.
T.A.s 3rd/4ths might be competitive against the other team’s 1st/2nds in C4 and Wembley might go ok. Why didn’t they put in North Freo or North Beach both from D1 instead of Wembley from D2.

Vicko, I was being generous and slotted single team clubs into E1 and E2 going off last year’s results. I agree with Mad Dog’s system but also thought that the weaker single team clubs get an opportunity of rebuilding if necessary, in E2. If they are good enough and have a successful year, they can then move up the following year or if stocks are good enough enter C4 as a 2 team club. Rating lower grade teams off their top team’s rankings may be a good gauge to work off as they did with A/B 3rd/4ths in D1 and D2 last year. They should stick to a promotion/relegation system instead of changing it each year. The teams that perform well get to move up and the teams that don’t move down.

Each year it seems to be in a shamble, this years even worse.

Dreaming- your team must of finished in the top four so that is why you go from E3 to E1. Well that is their reasoning. Did your club ask to go to E1?
