No it wouldn't have Pete - the reserves side would have been filled with amateurs or country league players due to the dozen being rested from AFL duty

Same scenario

Yeah I get that but wasn't it the premise that they would play for no points, would probably seen Swans or Souths playing finals this year.

PN could you pleae explain why any of the legitimate WAFL teams would bother to play a game which would in effect be a glorified scratch match?

What a powerful unit joondy be shaking in their boots

That is a pitiful looking Reserves side ...that is the real Peel League team!

To a degree BH, plenty of blokes who may have played at Peel in the last 2 years if no alignment are now somewhere else.

What everyone is forgetting they get another chance next week regardless of this Weekends result and will be back to near on their best side next weekend.

They may lose the battle but have not lost the war - yet

Kirbs if that is the case that absolutely demonstrates what a DISGRACE the host club alignment is and how it attacks the very integrity of the competition. It also shows the COMPLETE NONSENSE that "Peel qualified for the finals for the first time".

Maybe so, but will you also say "COMPLETE NONSENSE" that East Perth got to a Grand Final last year and won a few awhile back under an "Alignment", because it is the same thing . WAFL compromimised whenever an alignment and both AFL clubs should have been allowed their own Reserves side

Can you please explain to me why WP are going to play a final against a Peel reserves side, probably the same reason that Swans would play a glorified scratch match against the AFL reserves sides.

Absolutely yes mate - under no circumstances should a full aligned side or AFL entity influence results of the WAFL matches

But if it is inevitable or unavoidable - then the AFL listed players should be fairly distributed so no advantage is given to a particular club and all is equal

Put simply there is no way the semi-professionals are going to be able to compete fairly and it will get more apparent as time goes on

Sure there will be occasions where our sides will win but it become less & less

Fundamentally - if the AFL comp wants reserves teams then they should fund it & locate it centrally to their comp (be that Vicco / NSW / ACT whatever)

Leave the State leagues unaffected to produce the kids they prey upon on Draft day

There will be nothing left but the two greedy AFL alignments eventually if this keeps going

The thing that concerns me is they will get another chance next week and will be considerably stronger from then on. They could even make it through to the grand final. Heaven forbid.

For me this is the most critical issue of this whole sad situation. The Dockers decision to rest a heap of players significantly weakens Peelmantle in their clash with Joondy, thus handing Joondy a massive advantage and good luck to them as it is not their doing, then the following week Peelmantle will front up against hopefully Claremont, if not WART with a massively stronger mostly AFL listed team, how is that fair to Claremont (don't give a rats about WART), totally distorts the finals which is supposed to be the WAFL showpiece!!

All we can do is hope that Cl beat WART, then beat Peelmantle in the 1st semi and then the comps integrity will be reinstated with 3 WAFL teams left to fight it out.

If they were to not play for points that would mean they sit out September? No way would Eagles and freo have their squads getting no match practise and fitness in September surely. One of the strengths of the previous setup was half of their leftover players would be playing wafl finals and other players that the afl teams wanted playing were allowed to play for another club in reserves finals if I recall correctly
