BH: I think you would right about Clarke being the last coach to win the Shield. It is bloody shocking record, and, at the moment, as others have pointted out, we are not even competitive in a way I have never seen before in this state.

Foster also coached the Subi reserves in the mid 1970s.

Was also very well regarded in his stints in the UK also, from memory that was at a first class and T20.

I'm not sure what WA are doing but by my reading of the situation they're over 500 runs in front of SA in the second innings with one day to go. They've already had a rain delay and given SA only made 200 in the first dig, why the hell haven't they declared to give themselves maximum time to get an outright? Maybe I'm missing something....but to me an hour tonight at them would have been useful.

Now he would struggle to hold his spot in the WA team if more of our international players were available. Once Stoinis, Agar and Short return from NZ, he might find himself playing grade cricket after making his test debut only 12 months ago.

A bit harsh Mike didnt he top score in the 1st dig only last week against Future Australia (aka NSW)?
He was hitting the ball well in the 2nd innings today but inexplicably threw away his wicket when he and Phillipe were starting to put a decent partnership together to counter attack the Tassie bowlers.
Surely Bosisto has to come under scrutiny firstly only averaging 21 with the bat.

As I posted some weeks back Cartwright has been hitting the ball superbly all summer but just not going on with the job but he certainly cashed in against SA with a nice double.
Moving him back down to 6 where he is much better suited was finally overdue I might add.
Kudos to the selectors for sticking fat with the talented lad when others wanted him gone ahead of Bosisto!

WA finally declared and Paris got a wicket with his second ball. I'm not sure how much more play there'll be tonight as it's getting on for 6:30 at this current time. Obviously they added some on for the rain delay but why WA didn't declare earlier and get say 10 overs at SA is a mystery to me. Maybe I'm missing something as I said.

Great double by Cartwright in this game, in a dead rubber mind you when the pressure was off. As I said in another post, his batting average when the Warriors season was alive was 25 which for an established shield player is not good enough. Doesn't matter how well he is hitting the ball, you are judged on performace and being able to convert those 30's and 40's into big scores which he consistently failed to do up until this match. Comparing him with Bosisto is meaningless becuase he is only a borderline state player who gets a spot because we have so many absences through international representation and injuries . I honestly don't think Bosisto is up to it on his performances so far. Cartwright on the other hand is an elite player who was in line for an ashes test spot at the start of the year and I'm sure he would be personally disappointed with his overall shield output this season.
I do agree that he has been batting in the wrong spot at number 3 and hopefully he stays at number 6 going into next season.

Interesting to see Cartwright finished top 4 in the shield player of the year voting....FMD not too sure how strong the comp was this year.....Tremain took 51 wickets to win the player of the year gong.....Bird and Winter shared second place...... Winter is an interesting one....only burst onto the season post the BBL.....top run scorer for the season didn't even hit the 800 mark.....Ferguson or Weatherald was the top run scorer both had 20 innings I think. Great to see young ex u/19 skipper Jake Doran scored some runs....more so with the Duke ball post BBL.... occupied the crease for long stints and showed great temperament....could be a smokey for the next Ashes tour where the Duke ball will be used.....and Aust batsmen usually fall apart technique wise

If Hilton Cartwright has finished 4th as Shield player of the year with his stats then the depth of talent across the country is pretty shallow.
With Smith not carrying the team from a run perspective it demonstrates that even more, Renshaw in - not up to it, Handscomb in - not up to it (sure they may get further chances but in the eyes of the selectors they are currently not up to it), Maxwell - can't make the touring squad, obviously not up to it also, Maddinson - not up to it and apparently can't get a run in a farmers paddock, the list goes on.
And Cartwright is top 5 in Shield cricket, no reflection on him rather a reflection on Australian cricket, imagine the walk up starts who never/barely got a game - Siddons, Law, Hodge et al, these blokes must surely be shaking there heads.

Well done to QLD it looks like. It goes to show one thing: the natural order of the world is all out of wack. I re-call, as a kid, laughing at them for failling to have won the shield over decades.

Congratulations again lads.
