The only thing that's changed over the last hundred odd years is the sensitivity of society. Perhaps people were also better mannered and showed more respect in bygone eras but umpires have always copped it from both spectators and participants in the game.

Any umpire or fan or administrator is completely naive to expect spectators or players not to display any dissatisfaction with umpires and referees. It's laughable.

To be fair, Perth have had much bigger issues that they should have been focusing on over the last 40 years to even be competitive before you concern yourself about whether or not a ‘soft’ 50m penalty gets fished out by the umpires. 

If you wanted to compare Perth’s skill and decision making errors (on & off-field) against errors made by the umpires, I’d back the umpires in to have made at lot less errors 😂

Well we know your lot are a protected species Tigger. Rich suburbs, got exclusive rights to at least 80% of players in the most expensive private schools in Perth and friends in high places. We know what that means.

And there it is…Perth’s default position for the last 40 years - blame anybody and everybody else for Perth lack of performance 

Just remind me how 80% of footballers at the 7 PSA school are exclusively Claremont’s? Claremont has 3 PSA schools in our zone, Perth has 2 or is it 3 in their zone? Given we have bugger all public high schools (2?) in our zone we are always going to have a higher percentage of PSA sourced players. 

but to stay on topic I look forward to picking up the discussion about umpiring errors costing Perth matches when Perth fails to make a skill error in a match - actually let’s make it less than 10 skill errors in quarter so you don’t have to wait another 40 years

Agreed SS but on the other side of the coin you get umps like Ray Chamberlain who try to be the main part of the game. I'm not sure if you've noticed but he's the controlling ump a whole lot more than the other two in any given game. To me a good ump is one who goes unnoticed, is respectful to the players but commands respect him/herself. I'm not sure there's too many of those around at the moment in the WAFL or AFL.

Who the hell do you think has been behind this new zero tolerance, bang 50 metres if you as much as look at me approach, Fat Cat? 

By the way I’m all for protecting umpires, what Toby Green did deliberately bumping the umpire as they were walking off during a break between quarters was totally unacceptable and the AFL were right to appeal the original penalty. Not sure what it was now but he copped more weeks on appeal.

But you just watch this will be the talking points on talk back after matches how 50 metre penalties will have determined the result of games. Coaches will probably be copping huge fines too for speaking out. It will turn people away from the game. It is already over umpired. This will ruin the game. By the way how’s junior going? You still pissed off he’s not allowed on this site?
