I saw him bat in a grade final in the early 70’s at the WACA when two games would be on separate wickets simultaneously. He was hitting the ball that hard that for their safety the fielders of the other match kept one and a half eyes on him and only half and eye on their own game.
A product of the John Inverarity school of life that taught that good endeavour did not just stop on the playing field.
Got a few of his books, might be time to re-read them.

Rest in peace, Bacchus.
You were (and will forever be) an absolute legend.
Rod had just been selected in the Test team when I began seriously following cricket.
Great reminiscence about two games being played on adjoining wickets at the WACA, Devonleigh.
I can understand how 22 fielders would've felt in danger when Rod was batting.

A very sad day as we have lost not only a WA/Australian cricket legend but a WA icon.

Growing up in the late 70s/early 80s Bacchus was a god like figure along with his great mate D.K Lillee, Kim Hughes etc for kids in my era in the summertime everyone wanted to be him when wicketkeeping and batting left handed taking on the attack or D.K when bowling etc, along with our WAFL greats in the winter.

The Lillee-Marsh Stand at the WACA is a great tribute to our 2 WA legends, I will make sure I raise a glass to the great man next time I can have a beer in the Lillee-Marsh Stand probably when we play EF there in the footy season.

c Marsh b Lillee will live forever. Glad I saw you enjoying a frothy outside the E Shed Markets a couple of months ago. Glad too I saw you play many memorable games at the WACA. Thank you Rod, you gave so much to cricket.

A great cricketer and administrator and also a great character in an era when great characters were adored an embraced by the public and the media alike, unlike today when they all have to be robots.

one of Bacchus' lesser known feats was as a South Fremantle player very early on before cricket became number 1 priority
