Seeing cult figure Fraser Gehrig doing a promo for Deliveroo at the Saints v Geelong game got me thinking about Fraser’s time at Perth when he was allocated or chosen by us in the reverse draft. And it got me thinking, who would be your best AFL allocated players when interstate recruits were spread out among the 9 WAFL clubs? I’ve got my ideas who some of them would be at other WAFL clubs but I won’t steal your thunder. One obvious one played just 1 WAFL league game and it was see ya later.

Anyway here is a list of Perth players I’ll rate from best down.

1. Fraser Gehrig - I think played most of his first year in the WAFL and I think had the most impact of any AFL allocated player at Perth.
2. Sam Butler - was a class above at WAFL level, very composed one grab player who always used the ball well.
3. Dean Solomon - ex Bombers premiership player I think and hard nut. Didn’t play many games for the Demons but had a big impact.
4. Mark Johnson - another ex Bomber team mate and premiership player I believe. Similar type to Dean Solomon.
5. Damian Atkins - ex Collingwood wingman, may have also been an ex premiership player under Leigh Mathews? Couldn’t hold a regular spot down with WC so played a lot of games with us and gave us great service. Great pace and great kick either foot.

Chris Judd, Luke Shuey, David Wirrapunda

At Swans Ashley Hanson and Ryan Davis were the best two interstate AFL players. Davis played on with us after being delisted by the Eagles.
Others from the top of my head included Clive Waterhouse, Clayton Hinkley, Lachie Neale, Chad Morrison, Brady Anderson, Guy Richards. I'm sure there are others

2012 Lauchie Neale was a star at Swan Districts.

I too liked Sam Butler. Can we put our worst down too? If so - Ash Smith

The Dockers Jeff White was easily our most influential allocated player and was one of the main reasons we played off in that heartbreaking 1996 grand final loss,but he unfortunately failed to shine on the big day,[even though he was played out of position at C.H.F. in the first quarter!!!!!] but during the home and away of that particular season he totally dominated the centre square.

Byron Schammer was a dual premiership player for us after being delisted from Fremantle and became a strong club man.
South got a heap of goals out of Ryan Murphy.

Nichols won a flag in 92-for EF.....Koby Stevens gave his all in the blue n white....Houlihan and Brown played a few games for EF during their time at WCE....Think all 3 played in that 2012 GF loss to Cl......Matt Spangher was well loved down at EF too from memory..whilst Cam Sutcliffe went ok during his Freo days

...got nothing out of  ex Freo boy Toby Stribling....who went on to have a half decent SANFL career....also Bukowicz did fark all....and another small forward from Freo whose name escapes me....

Didn't Chad Morrison start at EF before moving to SD?...kind of remember his older brother coming over to play at EF to help Chad settle in....

mikeh Brady Anderson was recruited directly by Swans when he came back to WA after being delisted by North Melbourne.  From memory Clive kicked 9 goals in the wet for us against South Freo.
