I’ve been getting pricks knocking off my bird baths and other bits n pieces from the front garden the last six or so months. Probably kids. Think I better follow your lead and set up cameras and spotlights before they get braver and start checking my back yard out.

I can put you on to a guy sharkie who is very reasonable and knowledgeable, in fact now he is doing contract work for the RAC and they wouldn't hire cowboys. Send me a pm if you're interested. The latest cameras and hard drive have smart detection, basically means will only notify you if a human is detected not a cat roaming around.

Thanks DD, sent you a pm....I hope.

Yes I replied, did you get it?

The cops did not attend. Went to the cop shop with the video and the lazy copper said, there is no video of her walking down your driveway. We could identify a blue pillow case that she used to carry the booty and a brown towel that she used to break in the window. We had film of her trying to break into Pete’s house next door, the dogs scared her off. Yea sure, the cops are busy, they were not interested. Tracked the phones to an address and the cops told us to piss off and not to try and get the phones back. To this day, not one phone call from the cops. My daughter’s boyfriend put an app on her phone to track her and to monitor her messages, I went to the cops, they didn’t give a fuck. We need more local vans patrolling the streets, even more council rangers patrolling the streets and the right when somebody that steps over to your property and cause mayhem at your front door or your back yard , you have the right not to uses reasonable force, but use full force to your ability to protect your family, yourself and your property.

Sorry to hear that Winger. you and your neighbour have a right to expect much better. I have fortunately had a much better experience although the copper didn't call me the next day like he said he would to obtain a statement and I had to follow it up several days later. He then said it's not urgent, he's already faced court and due for a second appearance where he will plead. He has been charged with criminal damage and carrying a weapon with threats to harm (or words to that effect). If he pleads guilty they don't require a statement from me which I find weird. The video evidence is pretty damning but still the court should want to hear about my experience I would have thought. Apparently he went on to other properties after mine and did the same things.

I thought it would be good practice to phone the victim to give an update, but apparently that's not important.

I must of attended literally hundreds of Breaks as we called them back then (Break and Enters) now Burglaries, during my time in the cops, South of the River, around the City and Regional WA as well, back then we attended every single house or business, I'm not sure if they do that anymore, it was certainly rife in the early 90s.

It was very rare indeed back then to get a night break on a house, rarer indeed to have an offender on premises, yours actually sounds more like a Home Invasion type of offence. Generally the offenders would enter empty houses during the day, shops got hit at night. Violence was very rare,

It's good that you had the police arrive so quick, you would of certainly have been given a priority with an offender like that. My more recent experiences have been poor with attendance times.

30 years ago, home security like your set up was rare, in harder hit areas, people had security screens, but that was about it, wealthier areas you would find a few alarms on houses fitted but not that many, Video surveillance was virtually unknown, except for the very rich.

Alarms back then were basically useless, they would go off once the offender got inside, sound off and usually un monitored by the time anyone got there the offenders had cleaned the place out and done the bolt.

I always recommended a decent sized dog with a pretty aggro attitude to keep offenders out, I very rarely came across a house with a angry dog that was broken into.

In your case if you are really concerned I would recommend a good alarm system with duress alarm close at hand monitored by a reputable security company that can give you good response times. Keep 000 on speed dial as there is no substitute for urgent police attention.

Get in contact with your local police station and see what the Officer in Charge can offer you in terms of updates, and see if he can step up patrols. If you have no satisfaction write to the District Superintendent. Put it in writing as they will be obliged to respond and have KPIs.

Yep I've already been thinking of a duress alarm on the outside and some blinding flashing LED's to totally bamboozle them. I already have an alarm but don't want that going off inside the house. When I got the guy to install cameras I got him to fit a GSM dialler, essentially it's an analogue modem fitted to the alarm with a sim card you buy. I've got that number saved as Home Alarm. If the alarm goes off when I'm away from home it rings my phone and I know the alarm has gone off.

Kind of like a back to base or monitored alarm but you are the monitor. It only costs me $60 a year for a 12 month Sim.

I've already had an extra camera fitted inside the garage and just noticed today a small dent low down on the garage door that he's obviously given a decent kick. Only had a new garage door fitted around April last year. Also only just had the porch painted about 12 hours before this prick turned up to reign terror and the sharp edge of his tomahawk made a blemish on the freshly painted porch. Just incredible.
