It's not that we were beaten by a small margin, it is the manner in which we played.
EP are a team of amateurs coupled together with 7 blokes who have played more than 50 games.
Both games were insipid on beautiful days for football.

If you were smashed in both fixtures then fair enough but surely there's enough to work with in order to win a few based on those results.

I think its more the attitude of the team this year that we have all sensed rather than the results. There are a handful of players who carry the load for the team every week and some of the others don't appear to have the work rate that is necessary. The 8 point margin on Saturday flattered us because East Perth dominated every aspect of the game to the extent that they had over 70 possessions more than Swans. What kept us in the game was sloppiness and waste of opportunities by the Royals as well as a tight Swans defence led by Tony Notte. Don't forget most pundits had EP as favorites for the wooden spoon this year and they have managed to dominate us. I have no doubt we will win some games as the year progresses. Whether we can get to the 6 win mark of 2018 is debatable based on what I have seen so far.

You are far more optimistic than me Mike as I cannot see where we will win any game at the standard we have displayed so far and in our last 13 games which have resulted in 12 losses.

BC the 2 games we have played this season have been of an appalling standard of football most certainly not worth free admission let alone $15, do not let the closeness of the results fool you, the skill level has been putrid in both and so far from the WAFL League standard I expect it is not funny, I mean 7 goals against 8 & 7 in both games says it all!

I would start by bringing in Bain, Daniels, Reidy, Riley, Hinder & Italiano for this weeks game and work from there!

Fair enough Mike and BH....your knowledge of how SD is going is far greater than mine and respect your opinions. I also note games have been very low scoring with only 7 goals kicked in each game by all teams with the exception of the SF where they kicked 8 which does suggest a very defensive game plan and not a great spectacle for supporters.

Just looking at the stats a bit more closely it was quite telling that even though East Perth had heaps more of the ball than we did, they still won the tackle count 62 - 47 would you believe?? This indicates a lack of desire and intensity by our guys.
For this weeks game v Perth I reckon there are 5 guys who would be very vulnerable to losing their spot in the team given their performances. In place of Dean, Kohlmann, Maguire, Stephens and O'Sullivan, I would be looking at Riley, Bain, Reidy, Mackenzie and Daniels ( maybe Slater as well). A bit more pace and grunt is needed.

What I find interesting is Swan Districts having 81 less Ball disposals and 50 less Marks.
And yet only lose by the eight points.
Apparently Swans were leading up to ¾ time. And found themselves down by the 8 points at the conclusion.
I think they could count themselves a bit unlucky in this match and also in the opening round
Had they more ball possessions, the result could easily be different. Given the fact Swans offence rate for the match is17.7%, whereas the hosts were measured slightly less at just under 16.
Swans had the same problem in the opening round where Souths had much more Ball Disposals, and yet Swans only lost narrowly. Bit difficult commenting when it's too hard to actually watch a match but I think they just need to get their hands on the ball more.

As I said on my previous post WAG, both Souths and East Perth were wasteful with their disposals and kept Swans in the games longer than deserved. Most of the Swans players lacked intensity and they were kept in the game because of the outstanding efforts of Notte,Gault and a few others. Perth will thump us on Saturday unless their is a profound change in the players mindset. Somehow they have got to find a way to score more than 7 goals and it may be that the selectors bite the bullet and place Notte at Full forward. He is the best contested mark in the team and we were crying out for someone like him in the goal square last week.

BH,

You boys must be breaking almost even in some areas, to lose 2 games narrowly is not a bad effort, its just a matter of maintaining or improving a little. The game @ Joondalup could be a crucial one for both sides, battle for the spoon possibly :)
