I thought it was an opportunity lost for Swans. The Bulldogs were nowhere near their best but Swans were not good enough to take advantage. Both teams were very haphazard with their delivery into the forward line and Schloithe stood out in the midfield and was very clever with his use of the ball which probably made the difference in the end. I was very pleased with Swans endeavour which was at a high level all day but there were too many sloppy disposals which put teammates under pressure. Warwick Wilson was outstanding and would be an elite WAFL player if he could just tidy up his kicking a bit. Good 4 quarter effort by Payne which made up somewhat for a quiet game ( for him) by Riggio. O'Sullivan did lots of good work and our defence led by Notte stood up well all day.Glass-Mccasker looked a likely type and Simpson and Hampson were OK without setting the world on fire. Overall enough to give us Swans fans some encouragement but well done to the Doggies for deservedly taking the 4 points.

Bad luck Deano, the pack mark at the end deserved a hero's finish.

SH it was Josh Simpson with the big mark 40m out and then the shot after the siren to win not Alby Dean.

Interestingly and heartbreaking for SD fans is our last 2 games (both at Basso) have both been lost after the final siren with Bolton kicking a goal for Claremont in the last game last year to win it for them and yesterday vs SF we missed our chance to do the same.

Tony was ok mate certainly not our worst player yesterday, just had a quick look at the stats and confirmed what I thought we only had 2 players who got at least 20 possessions (and way too many of our players had less than 10 possies) whilst SF had 8 or 9 who had 20 or more and even then when we did have the footy we coughed it up with regularity!

I dont think Ellard played a pre season game Mike same with a few others like Raynor, Hackett etc

Ellard only played about 2 Q of scratchies so is obviously being managed atm, will be very welcome and much needed when he is fullly fit and the injection of Bain too as we discussed yesterday. Hampson & Simpson will only get better with familiarisation too

Thanks BH - bit embarrassing, but unsurprising considering I need glasses to see the scoreboard these days. Still 20-20 when it comes to umpires' decisions though...

Credit to the club for their promotional efforts. There was an excellent atmosphere at the game yesterday, from the legends lunch with Eric Gorman tossing the coin to the kids activities and Tallen doing the MC ing in that flashy black and white suit. It was a beautiful sun drenched day and it would have been perfect if Josh SImpson had been able to land that goal!
Never mind the team showed enough to suggest that they will be at least competitive with most teams this year as long as they can keep their top 10 - 12 players on the park most weeks.

Well l hope the screeching Tallen Ames is a one off failed experiemnet.
Supporters like to listen to the coaches and talk to each other in the stands or around the ground at the Qtr Time breaks and not have their sensibilities impinged upon with a constant screech over a PA system.
AS for having the kids chase the new mascot, please, what will it be next week kick a quoka.
On the football side, there is no point going into a game with a top heavy forward line if we aren't going to move the ball on quickly, at one stage of the 2nd qtr I thought we were going to clear the ball from the back line via the can bar on the hill.
The new rules were lost on both teams as neither bothered to play on from a point and roost he ball with the breeze. The players stalled and stood in the goal square looking for silly short options.

I can relate to your views TRSM. Like you I want to watch the footy and all the other stuff is irrelevant. However in this age of instant gratification, footy clubs are competing with multiple other sources of entertainment in a youth market and the clubs marketing strategy is unashamedly targetted at the young audience to try and get them into the habit of attending games. So we had the play zones, competitions and Tallen the extroverted ring master to get everyone participating. TBH I thought Ames played his role quite well, even though he was a bit loud and raspy as you said and given his long and loyal service to the club,Tallen deserves to be given a chance to grow into this MC type caper.
As for the footy you have no argument from me. It was an awful game which only maintained interest due to the closeness of the scores.

I thought the entertainment aimed at the little ones was great, no other club does it like Swans. I like to listen to the huddles too and never found it an encroachment. You sound a little negative and bitter at times!
