absolutely agree its on-field success that counts. i recall getting into some fairly heated discussions on FG in relation to the numbers of players Subi had drafted over the last 10 years or the lack there of...i said at the time given we won 4 premiership during that period I'll take flags over players drafted any time and I guess it also goes for money in the bank...but to hold SD as the paragon of on-field success is a bit of a stretch when we look at the club's recent record..although in saying that, in comparison to Perth your mob look like the Chicago Bulls of the 90's.

Oh didums BH.

Don't you think a club has a responsibility to it's members to run responsibly?

I was just answering the shite that gets thrown at PFC.

In my opinion unfairly.

Yes we have had no success for years and years, don't you think that gives me the shites?

Whay about SD 1932 - 1961?

In 1999 we had a consolidated debt of about $350 and nearly went over the precipice.

Don't you think you may have some work to do to get back on track?

Sorry, I would rather have a club than become extinct.

Then BC you would be proud of Subi 1924 - 1973.

Oh and their financial success of the 70's & 80's.

Don't throw stones.

very dark periods in the club's history indeed DF...fortunately for our poor suffering supporters we were able to turn that around from the mid 80's onwards and I sincerely hope the Dees do likewise in the near future to give some joy to the likes of your good self.

Was it complacency, ala "we don't have to worry...money is easy to get"?? Or was there some dirty dealings in the club? Surely you boys must think something smells...or do you just put your fingers in your ears and make excuses and bank the next cheque?

Its time to look forward now 58, the past is the past and we are lucky we have lucrative sponsors and now a good management team, although we will have to judge them in a few years but things are looking ok with Bottrell and Parky running the show and i hear Howard Dawson is joining the board and having spoken with him last year, he seems to have the best interests in the club at heart..You've got to take the good with the bad and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget. Learn from mistakes, but never regret

Yeh I guess that's the way to go dog. Group hug and pretend it never happened...after all, flags are more important than ethics hey?

What are you talking about ethics for? We have been cleared of any wrong doing! Its ok mate, i understand 17 years is a bloody long time!

errrr...17 years? You've snookered me dog - what's with the 17? Maybe it's Swans last drought....no wait that was 1990 to 2010 and that doesn't add up to 17. Maybe your drought before that...hell no that was from 1965 to 1982! Damn mate, you got me...I don't get the significance of 17 :pinch:[/q
Ah well 15, 16,17 same diff, and i doubt you will win one in the next 3 or 4 either, especially when the alignments get in to full swing

Do you think that sort of reasoning could well the the problem SDFC has when trying to balance their books :woohoo:

Thats actually not a bad comeback 58 fair play to ya, i did have a chuckle

It's all good fun dog

Not quite right bc, "we" was actually a media outlet with a fistfull of dosh and the rest of us that gave!! Can't remember a lot of the details and can't be bothered to google it. But you should get my drift?

Not quite right 58.The transfer fees for Gary Buckenara's move to Hawthorn came to $260000,a massive amount of dosh back in 1982.The media outlet you refer to was Channel 9 who worked in collaboration at the time with Subi's major sponsor Western Underwriters to reward Subi with $200000 for winning the 1986 premiership.Donations and levies from the public in the "Save Subi" appeal amounted to only $44000,much of which was given by Subi members and supporters.A great Subi player in Kevin Merifield was elected President in 1979 and this move was instrumental in Subi surviving and later prospering. An accountant named Michael Carlile and others too numerous to mention also helped to save Subi.Put simply,Subi deserve respect for the way they dragged themselves up from the gutter and it is one of the main reasons why I am a proud Subi man.

hear hear mudlark...absolutely 100% correct. the western underwriters sponsorship deal was the most significant in the club's history and fortunately they're still with us today.

don't forget some where at this time, WCE was spawned and played VFL footy at Subi Oval every 2nd week ....in fact I blame the Subi Footy club for what has happened to the WAFL today.....IF only they told WCE to play else where and Freo too in the 90's...or should I blame EF and CL for producing half of WCE and Freo's AFL side this past decade.....not too sure who to point the finger at TBH... ;)....certainly not at the PFC or SDFC though!! :)

you could be onto something there freez given SFC subleased Subi Oval to the WAFC...maybe the presence of the Beags and the Dorks is Subi's fault after all...bugger ;-(
