absolutely remarkable kicking at goal by Swan Districts - I have never seen that level of accuracy in all my years of watching WANFL footy when a side kicks 18 goals anyway
For a while it really did look like a black & white victory
Like our match it wasn't really decided until late in the piece

Totally agree Gtrx, it was a great game to watch.  Both teams were attacking throughout and this produced a great spectacle. Claremont were by far the better team on the day as the stats show ( they had 110 more possessions and 16 more inside 50s). As usual Bolton and a couple of his fellow midfielders absolutely monstered us.
Swans were able to stay in the game for as long as they did due to their amazing accuracy. When was the last time Swans kicked 18 goals in a match?
Was very impressed by Palmer and his goal sense. Jetta wasn't prominent but everything he did was pretty classy. Turner and Fisher were great as usual. Edwards ( the blond haired guy) was a good foil in the forward line and competed well.
Claremont are a very polished team. They recovered well from a poor first quarter and pretty much took complete control in the middle stages of the game until Swans mounted a late comeback. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Swans could have got their noses in front half way through the last quarter.
Overall a lot of upside from that performance for the boys and if they keep playing with the same style they showed today I reckon the footy is going to be very entertaining in 2021 and the wins will come our way.

Some good signs down at the holy grounds today. My young fella at his first venture didn’t cry nor shit himself all game so I take a small win from the balmy afternoon.
The way I saw the game today is our coaching team backed in our 5 best against their 5 best and we came up short. Claremont were flat in the first but once their runners woke up we were outclassed by their best few blokes who simply executed better.
Dual Sandover medallist just in case our coaching staff weren’t aware of #11’s ability [insert sarcastic tone],  Jye Bolton , literally ran around without an opponent all day and monstered us accordingly. When you leave the best player in the league to run around opponentless all day - from recall he was up to 35 odd possies halfway through the 3rd , you generally are gonna cop what you deserve. Bolton runs really smart patterns to preserve energy and stays dangerous when unmarked like today. Maybe we missed an opportunity to give say Aiden Clarke a run-with role on Bolton and learn a few things about the midfield art.
Jesse Turner was super impressive for us- his run was relentless for all 4 qtrs.
No doubt Claremont will be in it to win it this year so with that in mind a reasonable first up showing for season 2021 - let’s hope we can build on it

To start with the positives.  Wins by our ressies and colts were great.  Wins against Claremont's colts are always noteworthy.  Steve Basso would have been looking down and smiling on his son's, Rhett, performance today.  In the ressies, it was tremendous to see Warwick Wilson back playing for the mighty black and whites.

With respect to the league's performance whilst it was disappointing to lose we showed that we can kick winning scores this season.   Our recruits showed promise and Jetta will add class to our team this season.  I would still like to see us have a forward line at all times this season.   Swans's supporters on our league's performance today should have more hope than prior to this match.

One thing that seemed to me to be inexplicable is the need for the umpires to take 30 seconds to bounce the ball after a goal was scored.  Note the 30 seconds wasn't the time between the boundary umpire picking up the ball and the field umpire bouncing, often poorly, the ball.  The 30 seconds was the time the field umpire was given the ball to bouncing the ball.  One of our quarters was almost 40 minutes long.

I have never seen Bolton play a poor game against Swans. Our coaching staff seem to have given up trying to nullify his influence and seemingly try and work to negate the other players around him. Never works though because he has really good vision and with his elite disposal brings his team mates into the game.
The league game took nearly 3 hours today ( started at 2.10, finished at 5.05) which is ridiculous even though it was a high scoring match. As Swan42 said there seemed to be long delays when the ball was bought back to the centre after a goal. There were a lot of recalled centre bounces which did not go straight.

Just for the record, before today Swans had scored more than 100 points in only 2 of their previous 33 games, so it has been a rare event. And also thanks to the brilliant WAFL footyfacts website I can confirm that Swans score today of 18 - 1 ( 94.74%) is the most accurate score that Swans have ever posted in their 88 year history beating the previous best of 14-2 (87.5%) also against Claremont in 2012.

Watched the game on Facebook stream and not sure what it was like at the game but hard to tell the jumpers apart, especially from behind - the only difference was the colour of the shorts. Happens against East Perth too, Claremont need to address that I think, at the very least wear the hooped socks again.
Tough, contested game and yes I agree the quarters seemed to all go over 35 minutes - maybe this is what happens when goals are back in fashion. Prescott’s first major change of Bailey Rogers becoming a midfielder paid big dividends, best on ground and a great user of the ball, Bolton had a picnic, and young Van Rooyen showed composure to kick two set shots at crucial times when Swans were throwing the kitchen sink at us. One concern for me is having two teenagers, one a 17yo, in the key forward posts. We will be exposed there at times.
And on Bolton, it’s been said many times before but it’s just ridiculous that this bloke has never been given a second AFL chance.

Did  Claremont wear a  Gold guernsey with a blue sash as their away strip at one stage TOO?  I think that jumper would have been good yesterday as I was struggling to identify the difference from the back.
As for Bolton, his skills are a level above the WAFL competition and I admire his capacity to come back every year and play at the level he does. Probably too late for him to get a opportunity at AFL level now but you never know with the mid season draft in play.

Disappointing start to the season. Claremont are a good side, but we had the first four goals but couldn't go on with it, and while 18.1 is a remarkable effort but still only nineteen scoring shots - if a realistic 12.7 or 11.8 this would have been a hiding. And yes, I know we got within a kick in the last quarter.

Early I was impressed with Jones at CHB, and with more game time he could be an able replacement for Grainger-Barras, while Palmer looked dangerous the entire game. Jetta looked a class above them all but didn't get enough of the football to show it.

I assume Costigan is out for a while - how unlucky is this guy.

SO who kicked Swans' solitary point? Some remedial goal kicking practice in store for him.

It was Jesse Palmer.  If he maintains a 75% goal conversion rate each game, I personally will take that - 60 goals 20 for the season.
