As a young primary school students I can recall going to East Fremantle vs East Perth games when East Perth were a powerhouse team in the WAFL when coached by Jack Sheedy. I can remember Neil Hawke as a power full forward who kicked accurately at goal using drop punts. Neil Hawke was originally from South Australia and played league football in three states. He also played 27 tests for Australia and took 91 wickets.

I never got to see Neil Hawke play, Custy, but the link below describes how Port Adelaide was in town to play your Old Easts in a 1957 battle of the premiers.
Evidently, Port stayed at Jack Sheedy's Savoy hotel, with the Man of Two Easts recruiting him to East Perth.
EP had no shortage of goalkickers in those days (and in the '70s with the great Archie Duda), with Bill Mose kicking 115 goals in 1958 and Hawke in 114 in 1959.
Looking at the stats, EP struggled to beat EF during the early days of the Sheedy era.
Yes, Hawke was a pretty useful Test paceman.
An absolute tragedy that he was dogged with ill health for the last 20 years of his life after surgery went wrong.

No greater compliment to Hawke's kicking style than the fact Austin Robertson modelled himself on Hawke.

From an interesting article here from a couple of years back, which I just came across:
