I doubt you will understand as you are a swans supporter but we have been playing with a list of only forty because we were aligned. You cannot field a league and reserves teams with a squad of forty players. We have at least twenty positions to fill bring our squad back to full strength without anyone retiring or leaving.I doubt that twenty colts will be moving up a grade this year.I suspect Best will be one of a number of former royals to try his luck again. Why don't your mob stay loyal to your juniors.Payne,Clutterbuck,Ipsen,Slater Karamalis?,Wityk are some the players you have recruited in the last few years from us despite the fact you have good juniors.

C22 welcome to the "Let's do anything to divert from the Wentworth by-election debacle" club. Of the players you named how many left East Perth as a direct consequence of your club's OWN DECISION to align with one of the two WA domiciled AFL Clubs? It is an absolute joke that your club does not have to deal with the consequence of your club's decision as other clubs, including my own club, have had to deal with their decisions. IF that means that you have to spend a period of time on the bottom, so be it.

I remember a few on here posted they would be happy to finish near the bottom for 5 years just to have their own club back....funny how they (except Grump) have all changed their tune now it has become reality!!

Ummm....Not true BH....I was one of the one's happy to finish at the bottom, but I also understand, and as I hope you do, that you can not field 2 teams (league and reserves) with a list of 40 players in total. With that being the case the club is going to need to get some players from somewhere...anywhere...and no doubt some of those will come from other clubs or interstate....that's the nature of the beast.

Swan42....you can do as much name calling and sh!t throwing as you like, but even you would/should understand that you need 60 players to be able to field 2 teams in the WAFL....so yes we have made our bed and yes we should lie in it, but at least give us the opportunity to field a team each week in each grade.

OER I have no problems with you recruiting within your own zone. Even externally provided there are no changes to points cap and/or salary cap to allow you to extend your external recruiting.

Totally agree with you...

I'm thinking most of the recruitment will be done in our metro zone or country areas along with possibly 2 or 3 from interstate. Based on that I doubt that neither the salary or points caps will be a problem.

As opposed to the Swans method of recruiting from our zone.

Beas, I think EP people (myself included) are just saying we want to be "competitive" in 2019.
I couldn't give a flying fig whether the Royals made the finals or not in 2019, but just want the boys wearing blue and black to have a red-hot go - that will be the enjoyment in going to the footy next year.
As we saw this year, a team like East Fremantle being flogged most weeks is just as damaging for the WAFL as one like Subiaco winning every match unchallenged (that said Subi had a couple of scares in 2018).
It doesn't mean we're advocating wholesale EP recruiting (as per South Melbourne's "Foreign Legion" of the 1930s), but a select few players to fill glaring gaps.
In an ideal world, all clubs would rely solely on their zones.
But as we know we don't live in an ideal world - I doubt there's been a WAFL club in recent times that hasn't gone into a new season without having some players who weren't at the club the previous year.

So where did "EP" players of recent times L.Jetta, J.Bennell, Naitanui & Newman all come from and free of charge (both match payments & transfer fee less) for your service I might add?
