Freezin: I see what your sayin old son, but if they had of been any good they would not have have needed to play in sudden death finals, would they ? Yes they were the best team in the finals.

Have a think about 1979 in the WAFL when EF won a hard fought premeirship.
Thinking back to that year, SD were the best team in the competiton at the end of the season. Just did not quite win enough games towards the end, unlike your beloved Footscray a couple of years ago -- there is a bit of luck involved.

BH-- it was largely a fluke -- as you know, they won the first semi by two points, played a piddle weak Claremont, and then South completely bottlled it in the grand final. Good for Old Easts. They did make the grand final in 1977, which is why I put the word 'largely' in front of fluke.

Also BH -- I am feeling a bit better about that 40.11 game in 79. You thrashed both South and CL in that period, which at least puts Subi's smashing that day in a wee bit of perspective.

Interesting to think a team can play in 3 GF over a 6 year period(2 wins /1 loss) with a GF appearance strike rate of every 2nd year practically would be considered a fluke flag? .... Surely a fluke flag be one say 20 years apart from one another....1990 - 2010 .....LOL

Can't see how SF bottled it in 79 Ark....wouldn't call the likes of TI and Rioli bottlers....two of the best ever big match day players WA have ever produced...bar Peake, Buhagiar, D Green, Judge, LesterSmith, Purser and so on of course....LOL....

Freezin: that why I mentioned 1977 myself -- South did bottle it -- if you assume that they had the better side as most would.

Freezin: thinking about your comment on the 1980s comparred to today's rubbish, football has changed so much that I think the game is on the horns of a dilemma -- I don't think you can increase skill and fitness at the same time. I would much rather watch skill over speed. The idea of the mark was/is that the player had earnned the right go back and kick long.

If we went back to two interchange players I would be very happy.
