I thought I would watch the first few minutes of the Freo vs Hawks game. It is a saying that the umpires set the tone in the first few minutes of the game. One could ask what sort of tone Margetts was trying to set when Darcy was clearly interfered in a marking contest and no free was paid. I was reminded of a free given against Dave Ellard when he moved no more than 3 inches earlier this year.

Terror should the free kick have been awarded to the Fremantle player or not? From memory it was about 55-60 metres out and the score was 0.0 to 0.0 at that point in time.

If the players do not perform to the required standard they suffer the consequences. I see no reason why umpires who also make skill errors do not suffer the same consequences. In my opinion it was not a 50-50 decision, it was a 99-1 decision and should have been paid

I will also go as far as to say that an umpire who awards a 50 metre penalty 55 metres out and sets the mark 12 metres out should be dropped for the rest of the decision and is also required to attend classes in geometry.

As I have said on numerous occasions the umpires are totally unaccountable for their performances. If they were Margetts would not be umpiring in the AFL next week. If they were accountable for their actions Chamberlain would not have umpired AFL matches for the past x number of years.

Can't handle the effin whingers. Umpires at the top level simply don't go out there and play favourites. They call it as they see it. How come we never see posts saying "they went well today"? The only comments we see about umps are from supporters of the losing team. Bugger me dead!!!!

58s I support one football club. The club I am a member of and that club is Swan Districts Football Club.

Did I mention that umpires "play favourites"? The answer is I did not. What I said that there should be consequences for umpires making such skill errors as the one Margetts made within the first minute or so. In fact I said that the umpires should be held to the same account as players that don't perform to the required standard, they should be dropped like the players are dropped due to a poor performance.

TT perhaps you can quote the free kick count for the match South Freo were involved in today.
