Not sure who Bob's WAFL team was TOO?
I read he grew up in West Leederville and attended Perth Modern School and then UWA so possibly Subiaco or WP?

The "Silver Bodgey" is no longer with us, one of the great leaders this nation has had, a true man of the people. Just love that in any other country a beer swilling womaniser would never have got past GO, but Australia of that era embraced the Man and his larrikin ways. RIP Bob

I'm not sure about the WAFL, Beas, but in his pre-PM days Bob seemed to have a soft spot for the former South Melbourne.

I’ve realised I was actually thinking of Alan Bond who was a South supporter, sorry Hawkey. I’ve got no idea if Bob followed footy here in the West?

I know Bob played for the Subiaco Cricket Club in the late 40s/early 50s era.

Christ BH...have you ever thought about hiring yourself out for sports quiz nights as your knowledge of trivial bits and pieces is quite amazing to be honest. B)

Hawkey also played baseball (with some flair) for the Uni Baseball Club in the late 40s - along with Rolf Harris .

On a more significant level, these were some of very significant achievements while he was in the big chair, with Keating his treasurer:

Between them, they deregulated the financial system, injected competition into banking by granting 23 new licences, largely to foreign operators. They slashed tariffs, a process started by the Whitlam government, quelled union discontent and labour disruption, rebuilt the wage fixing system, introduced compulsory superannuation and overhauled the tax system with the introduction of capital gains tax and dividend imputation.

That is some CV!
